Nice dream.  Going to finish by constructing a throne from gold...eh, that one's probably been done to death already.

I figure, what I want is conquest.  Leading a nation.  And possibly achieving the Spaceship or Culture victories.

Nah, you just need to tie the chain to a few aquariums and cages.  Better pack them full of animals, too, so you'll have a good chance of having all of the required items.

I've seen Human Civilizations "The Greatest Empire" and "The Incinerated Nation".  Or should that be "The Incinerated !!Nation!!"

Also, I've noticed that the Goblin civilizations are the only ones to have more than one race, and the goblins tend to be a tiny minority, sometimes not even leading the fortresses.

I think a couple human civilizations have elf slaves, actually.  I'll have to visit them in adventure mode.

Make it stealthy and give it the ability to toss burning booze or spit dragonfire.

My parent Civilization is "The Armored Sacks".  It's symbol is an Elf.
Is that just some horrible random coincidence, or if I sift through the histories, will I find some elf-related event during its founding?
Or is there some twisted logic to it?

Now, if it were two crossed, dead Elves atop a mound of dead Elves...
Might make a good regimental crest

Okangestun, "Yorbound", a Large Serrated Aluminum Disc
This is a Large Serrated Aluminum Disc.  All craftdwarfship is of the highest quality.  It is encrusted with Obsidian, studded with Iron, and encircled with bands of Aluminum.  On the item is an image of a shining sun in Aluminum.

is probably the best one in my current fortress.  Most valuable, and I can't wait to start hurling it in Adventure mode.

Būnemrersīr, "Soothed Flighty", an Iron Bucket
This is an Iron Bucket.  All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality.  It is encircled with bands of Iron and Aluminum.  The handle is made from manta ray leather.

Not as valuable, but I'm using it as a well in my meeting hall/noble offices/noble dining rooms (though apparently I've got too many rooms mashed together to meet the nobles' requirements.


I wouldn't mind getting an artifact mechanism and artifact chain to go with them, though.  That way I could build the Flying Guillotine!

Unassigning the Mayor seemed to have done the trick.  Leatherworker's is back to work (making legendary leather) and no longer unhappy.

One of my dwarves, a Legendary Leatherworker (created an artifact) has the "Attend Meeting" job assigned.  There is no caravan or representative at the fort, and he's not in any noble position.  He's just running around getting unhappy.
Do you have any idea why this is happening, and what can be done about it?

Water doesn't work. I found out the hard way in adventure mode. It just turns the water into steam, hurting you more. Don't do it.
That...that is awesome.  Fire truly is the great destroyer.
Dwarf Fortress at its best.  You're on fire, and you try to put it out, and you simply get hurt more by scalding steam.

Should we call this kind of thing (getting killed by a bug) being buggered by Dwarf Fortress?

Eh, until you mint money, there's no currency, and every piece of trade is done through barter.  So, unitless is probably the way to go, then to whatever coins you mint afterwards.

Still, most of the names suggested sound pretty cool.
Kopeks, dwarfbucks, turtles, rounds...
I'd suggest Bottlecaps, especially if you're playing the Fallout mod.  Scrip is another cool one.
