Who knows, maybe the elves use wood for currency, and they're suffering from massive inflation.

Or maybe the elves are really smart when it comes to wood, and when you offer to trade wood to them, they think "Wait a second...this is a pile of worthless garbage.  Much more worthless than those stone rings and scepters and amulets."

Hey, if the elves start trading stone and gems and such, can we get all huffy?  Were player caravans planned for the Army Arc?
"Once part of the beautiful earth, now it is only a rude bauble, fit only for your kind."
Or, more likely...
"Oi, we're not taking that.  It's a load o' rubbish;  We should know, we're the ones who gave it to you in the first place."

Eh, I used to, but yeah, now I just make a cavern full of workshops.

Though, with mine, it's usually because I've dug a massive cavern around a volcano's mouth, then capped over the roof, so that it all counts as inside.

I think one of my better ones was "The Inky Forever-Soldiers".

Hmm...build a two tile long alcove in the wall, assign a booze stockpile to the end, then when the Dwarf goes to take a drink...wall him in.
Bonus points if you manage to brew Amontillado.  XD

Well, I suppose I might as well resubmit mine too.

SpearDwarf
Omrist-Kurig ("Wild Goose", of course)
Spearuse, Armor User, Shield User, maybe a bit of wrestling.  The usual.  Also, throwing.
Used to be a whaler until skeletal whales destroyed that industry.  Now looking for work; primary skills include stabbing things and hurling objects at other things.

And for when you go back to Fortress Mode
Wild Goose
Male
Preferably a Bone Carver, or just assign Bone Carving to whichever dwarf you pick.  Preferably a dwarf who likes bones, of course.
Not like he's going to have any shortage of material round these parts.

Probably when I was tapping my magma pipe.  I was getting irritated with all the "Dig Cancelled: Warm Stone" messages, so when I just kept redesignating and unpausing, until I got "Urist McMiner has died in the heat" and I was like, "Oh, crap.".  Turns out I misdesignated a square, and magma came pouring out.  I managed to wall it off in time, but I just keep thinking of that one poor miner who was digging "Tap, tap, WHOOSH!" and then was obliterated, save for his steel pick.  Heh, kinda like Repo Man, I suppose.

Does anyone else like to keep trophies from the Goblins?  Or other enemies, for that matter.
I like masks and skull totems.

I've got a big stockpile set to unusable equipment, and totems, in my great hall.  I melt down all the weapons and armor, and sell all the clothes, but I keep the Goblin Totems and the Masks.  I'm actually trying to decorate them as well, mostly with glass and bone (the two main products of my fortress).

I've currently got them in this big pile in the middle of the great hall, but I was wondering if anyone could think of some other way to use them to decorate.

Also, do Dwarves admire objects in stockpiles?  Or do I have to get around to building a shop so that they actually 'own' the item in question?  It'd be kinda cool if they counted as decorations for my meeting hall, and made dwarves happy.

So, it's like...the Forests Have Eyes or something?  Some naked mutant hillbilly?

Oddly enough, I've never had a snatcher run off with a child, but my first siege, I had a few Dwarf invaders.  It was weird, I got a message that so-and-so was enraged, and I was like "Enraged?  What's that?  And I've never seen that Dwarf's name before.", then, I figured out they were on the other side.  Traitors!
On the plus side, they were carrying fullsized masks and equipment.

18+?  That's kinda a quaint warning.
Speaking of which, do Dwarves use Pocket Rocks?

Man, reminds me of my old Shadowrun days.  Had a vampire kick down the door to a party member's house once, he scrounged around, and the only thing he could find was, well...

Pff...real Dwarves just estimate it, start digging, and make corrections after the cave-in.

After all, dig twice, cart the bodies away once.

Hey, when the Army Arc comes around, you won't even be those any more.  You'll be the barony or county seat.

I'm afraid I goofed up slightly in my design, and then said "Hell with it, I ain't gonna bother fixing it.  How many are actually going to get tossed in the slammer anyway?"
Basically, I have about a dozen chains in two rows, each with their own booze, bed, table, and chair.  They've all got three squares of seperation, so the prisoners can't brawl, and the rows were supposed to have five spaces of seperation, so the whoever's coming down has a clear isle.  Unfortunately, I miscounted, and have four, so if the prison is full, the warden'll have to be in arms reach of one or the other.  Doh.
