Same here, about Cinnibar.  I'm sure you'll eventually be able to smelt mercury out of it.  And weaponize it, presumably.

Pitchblende, probably.

Ironblood is one of the few heroes who can frighten villains by threatening to actually do more damage than them.

So, it's a lose-lose situation.  Even if you win, you still lose.  Because Ironblood kills you.

So that's why the Acolyte cannot afford to kill Ironblood.  It'll just make him even stronger.

Yeah, but won't the metal cup kill the reception on the Dwarves radios?

My current fortress was supposed to be a glorious, dignified castle. Then I realized that my only export has been prepared food and that my trade depot is positioned like a drive-thru. So now I'm considering building a giant logo of some sort and putting a smiley face in different colors of stone on my roof.
Harold and Kumar Go To Dwarf Fortress?

What else can I do with a dam and its resevoir?  Any suggestions?
I could try building Dwarven Rapture, I suppose; build a big box, build my glass paradise inside, and then fill the box with water.
Though, that would mean that leaky pipes might actually make dwarves happy...

Plus, the dank, damp tunnels of the fort would make for a cool and atmospheric dungeon, perhaps probably with water traps.

Really?  So far, I kinda like them.  Got a fortress lasting for about six years, the little things are junky, yeah, but the iron armor is meltable, the iron weapons are useable, and every once in a while you get some *<<=(Giant Cave Spider Sock)=>>* which, though tattered and covered in blood, vomit, and mud, is often enough to buy most of a caravan.

Wow, I have to say that I'm really enjoying this.
"No, I don't dislike cats.  I'm wearing two at the moment, actually."

Can I request a character?

SpearDwarf
Omrist-Kurig ("Wild Goose", of course)
How big a part does throwing play so far?  Might be a handy ranged skill for him.  (Though, if he had throwing as well as spear use, he might as well be called Queequeg) XD
Used to be a whaler until skeletal whales destroyed that industry.  Now looking for work; primary skills include stabbing things and hurling objects at other things.

And it sounds like your going back to Fortress Mode soon, so just in case, can I be added to the waiting list for that?  Seems like everyone wants a military dwarf lately, so I figure I should probably skip the queue and ask for a civvie.

Wild Goose
Male
Preferably a Bone Carver, or just assign Bone Carving to whichever dwarf you pick.  Preferably a dwarf who likes bones, of course.

Not like he's going to have any shortage of material round these parts.

I what kind of damage a thrown baby does?
Hmm...don't think it can be tested in Adventure mode, unfortunately.

Make a hilarious standard for damage.  Forget the Iron standard, we're going on the Baby standard.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / The Grey Eminence

Heh, so far, my nobles haven't been bad at all.  Baroness and Baron consort have been fine, made few mandates/demands, Tax collector does jack, since there's no money, and the Hammer is actually useful; she pulls levers when she's not busy polishing her hammer.

But they pale compared to my Bookeeper/Manager/Hoardmaster Domas Astkurik.  He was the original Mayor, but a new Obok Otilinlod was elected second year and has maintained that position.  No matter; Domas does all administrative work, and quiet a bit else too.  Even with the new mayor and all the nobles, Domas still gets the best (and only) custom job title; Grey Eminence.

Hate to have to ask, but who are Ironblood and Cog?  I assume they're uber-dwarves, but more importantly, do they have any cool or funny stories associated with them?

Stozu's parting words, possibly as he retreats, possibly as he bleeds out.  Actually, might make a good, moving, slightly delirious, final monologue, as he bleeds out.
"Goblins will come, Shorast.  The one constant through all the years, Shorast, has been baseball. Playedpages has rolled by like an army of steamrollers.  It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again.  But baseball has marked the time.  This fortress, this game: it's a part of our past, Shorast.  It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh...goblins will come Shorast.  Goblins will most definitely come."
"Now I'm gonna beat you with this mace until you go away."

I think "If You Build It, They Will Come" sums up Goblins pretty well.

Saraminod Iger, "The Great Gate of Rivers"

My starting location was a river flowing through this narrow canyon between two mountains.  So, I figured for my project, I'd disfigure the local Grand Canyon by building a massive dam in it to provide hydromechanical power for all my mad science needs.
Then I hit upon another idea.  Inspired by tales of someone's Dwarven superhighway project, and tales of massive world travel in later versions; Locks.
When boats are finally included in the game, they will have to pay tolls to me.

So far I've managed to lay down a basic dam, but I'm running into problems.  How do I get the water to rise up to at least the top of the dam?  I know it doesn't yet go over, but right now it's just like having the river stop dead, not even filling my dam?
I've got an idea or two and suggestions are welcome.
I'm either going to try some channeling, which may only do a z level or two at the cost of much labor, or I'm going to put some pumps, run by the river, to fill up the resevoir.

Unfortunately for me, it seems I've ended up in some Dwarf Fortress bastardization of Nam and Panama.  Hot and wet mountain pass/river area, with two major forests.  Thank Armok there aren't any diseases yet.
Though so far I've only gotten one siege (~15 gobbos), I've gotten more ambushes.  No major assaults, but it seems I constantly get sniped by the gobbos.  Some dwarf'll be walking through the woods on his task, when, zip, Charlie comes out of the trees and shoots him down.  And more of my soldiers seem to bleed out than be struck down, too.  Bad for morale.  The weird thing is, the goblins seem pathetically weak so far.  My dwarves, not even the champions, close in, the gobbos die in seconds.
At least I'm the one setting traps.  No punji sticks for me, though; I'm sticking with good old buzzsaws and giant corkscrews.  Though, in the interests of fairness (considering that I'm building them out of glass), I'm not going to blanket the entire map in them.  Just most of the major approaches.  So, I can consider it...Prince of Dwarf Fortress.

Wow, that is pretty cool, and it gives me something to hope for while playing.  Thanks.

What do you suppose Stozu does when he's not exterminating the other races?  Do you suppose he's master of the idle slouch on his Dwarfbone Throne?
Or heck, with those skills...baseball.  Played with Dwarf totems, of course.  Yes, baseball.  The one constant through all his years...

Oh god, now...now I'm only going to think of Stozu like James Earl Jones.  And from so many movies, too.  Field of Screams and Stozu the Barbarian mostly, though.
And with that...no longer just a berserking death machine gobbo, but a suave death machine gobbo with a really awesome voice.
"Urist McDwarf was estactic lately.  He was injured recently.  He had a loved one struck down lately.  He witnessed death recently.  He listened to a really awesome, deep, voice lately."

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Silliest Artifacts

I don't know if it's the Iron Low Boot, the Pig Iron Anvil wrapped in bands of Green Glass, the Perfect Chrysoprase wrapped in bands of chyrsoprase, or the recursive aluminium plate mail.
I think I'd have to go with...
Ameshfikuk Kizbiz Kezkig "Tempestfields the Deer of Connecting", a Pig Iron anvil.  Wrapped in glass.  And apparently at least five times as good as any normal anvil.
Is it just me, or does that name sound a bit Hebrew or something?

So far, I have eight artifacts, and almost all of the images relate to the founding of the Saramand Iger by the Walls of Fire in 201.

Hmm...okay, thanks.
Yeah, I kinda just want it for flavour.
Does using a pick in Adventure Mode train mining skill (and make me better at picking monsters).  If not, can I enable it?  How do they stack up as throwing weapons?

And does anyone have any amusing anecdotes about throwing picks?   ;D

Heh, I just bought  a new mattock to dig out my garden, and it's been really useful.
So, now I'm wondering...what kind of damage does a pick do, and what skill do you use to wield it?  Or are picks even useable in Adventure Mode?
