DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Block floor found in cavern

Hi everyone
As the subject title says, I found a block floor pathway from one side of playing area to the other that ramps down several levels as it goes. I have not found any other evidence of any other civilizations in the caverns.  Anybody ever find anything like this in the fortress mode?  I am wondering if i try to start another embark next to this one if I would find more areas like this.

DF Gameplay Questions / Herd of draltha caged

Hello,
I have just caught a "herd" of Draltha. They are in cages but I am wondering what to do with them?  Breed? Sell? Kill? I tried putting them in a pen/pasture but they paid no attention to its borders and ran out of the room.  How do I keep them in a specific area?

DF Gameplay Questions / Dropping enemies into pit

Hello
I recently saw a video where the fortress was being invaded by goblins.  One of the hallways was "rigged" somehow so when any intruder walked down the hallway the floor would drop out and they would fall into a room where there was a forgotten beast that would do the dirty work.  I am not sure if it was a bridge attached to a lever that was pulled and made the floor drop out or what.  Any insight would be great! Also, how  it would be constructed.

DF Gameplay Questions / Work orders not being worked on

Hello,
I am relative new to the game. I have had several fortresses and in each one the work orders that I create don't seem to be getting completed or even started. The workers all just do their own thing. I have the materials to complete the work. Would it be the materials are too far from workshop? Any insight would be greatly appreciated as it seems I always have the laziest dwarves around!
