Also creatures will should start burrowing soon...  having a small hoard of Goblins pop through a wall in a surprise attack should be able to kill off a few civilians before the army is able to respond.

If we made shelving that cost 1 resource per square that expand capacity to 2 or three barrels would be fair, I mean a 10x10 stockpile would require 100 resources!

As much as I would like to use rock, restricting to metal or wood, would be be more balanced.

DF Suggestions / Re: Route caching
« on: June 30, 2009, 03:13:33 pm »
What if you kept track of "Doorways" or "Gaps" defined as either a gap between any 2 colinear walls or the gap between two ends of a non straight wall(exact definition to be deturmined).  Then set up tables with a starting and Ending "Doorway" where there is no additional "Doorway" between. Each Entry would also have a cost(or # of steps to get from one doorway to the other).

The quickest routes could then be generated as lowest total "Doorway" cost.

I believe this if correctly defined, could limit # of "cached routes" while also minimizing route complexity.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Pull the DAMN #@$#@$ Lever

The lever is wide open on about half it's sides.

The task is not active (no A), and is pretty central to the fort.

DF Gameplay Questions / Pull the DAMN #@$#@$ Lever
« on: June 12, 2009, 02:52:10 pm »
So I have a lever... It i doesn't have any workshop profile restricting who can pull it, but it's work queue just sit's there with no Dwarf interested in pulling the lever.  I have usually 4-10 idle dwarves...

Any ideas?

So my 9 year fort(pop capped @ 70), has a hidden river, I expect to be breeching shortly.

Ever since I settled on the sight I've been getting "Cave Crockadile has given Birth" and "Cave Crockadile has grown...." messages.  I figure there's gotta be atleast 20-40 of the damn things...

My last run in with a crockadile resulted in the crock
Entirely wiped out my embarking party before the first season was over.

This should be fun.

Now somebody needs to make a landing pad for the thing on the back of giant turtle.

There's a difference between knowing how to be a vet and knowing how to perform lethal injections.
</derail>

Someone needs to read All Creatures... lethal injections are standard vetrinary practice.  Sometimes the best thing to do is to end animal's suffering.

What makes you say that a vet working at an animal shelter, is likely not to be competant?  The shelters I've been to(admittingly not many) have fully trained vets who work/volunteer) there to care for animals found injured or to perform spaiding and neutering.

Back to the real topic.

Unless Frodo's back was against a large movement imparing structure he probably would have been knocked back/down several feet.  Because an 80 90 pound hobbit, being hit by a spear that cannot puncture his body, would act much like a pool cue being weilded by a 600lb+ troll. (Aragorn in the near right pocket!) That being said he should still be helluva bruised, and ought to have a cracked rib or too...

Hey guys, I'm not levelling accusations or anything, but on second glance I think the photo with the shoe was shooped.  I can't quite put my finger on what, though...

So, what was scamps originally holding?

If you look at the original picture (from the dev-log), that one wasn't photoshopped.  So...what are you up to...?

It looks like, the image had the middle of it removed, making scamps much shorter... scamps has been dwarfed!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Lame artifacts!

Seriously! Why does the Game make you make items that are only useful in pairs, singularly?  I'm not complaining about resource use or anything like that, but If I want armor 30 dwarves I have to construct 30 helms, 30 "Armor"s 30 pants 30 leggings, 30 boots, but I have to make 60 gauntlets/boots/Greaves.

It would just make more sense if things are constructed in pairs.  The individual items don't need to be kept in pairs, but construction really ought to be.

There are far too many dwarves walking arround with an artifact boot on one foot and poor quality 3/4 rotten kitten leather boot on the other.
