DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: The Perfect Starting Seven

This is another pet hate of mine that a load of people always use. It blatantly slows down production of wooden items because while your carpenter is in the workshop, there's nobody out getting wood for him to use, and similarly while he's out chopping down trees, there's nobody in the workshop making barrels, bins and stuff. These two skills should ALWAYS be on two different dwarves.

Aside from 7 beds at the very beginning how much carpentry do you really need?  Especially once I start trading wood cutting is not a high as a priority. Once I have a spare dwarf I tend to have dedicated carpenters / wood cutters.

1 Miner
1 Carpentry/wood cutting
1 Mason/engraver
1 farmer/brewer
1 appraiser/buiding designer
1 mechanic
1 stone crafter/trainer

I generall put my mason on mining as soon as we arrive on site to help with initial digging efforts. I take him off once I have the my initial mining done.

I usually add the folowing

1 cat
1 dog
1 rope(for a well, i generally don't bother with textiles until i get 1-2 migrant waves)
1 silk thread/cloth
1 plant thread/cloth (incase I get an early mood)
and spend the rest on booze and seeds and food

Unfortunately, unicorns and giant desert scorpions don't breed. :(

Yeah a half unicorn half scorpion would be pretty sweet.
a six legged armored horse(or goat) with a Mandables, and giant spiked stinger would kick butt.

Ungeg Inketh 'The Failure of Justices" a Willow Statue

This is a Willow Statue All craftswarfship is of the highest quality
It is decorated with a turtle shell and encircled with bands of Willow and turtle bone
On the item is an image of a dwarf and a elf in Kaolinite The dwarf is embracing the elf.

*Edit*
I'm just really amused by this.

Traps->
Moat with drawbridge, ->
Trade Depot,->
another moat with drawbridge(or other side of split moat)-> tunnel(or fort) leading to rest of fortess.

I've been meaning to try and put that in at the base of an under ground cave, maybe lining entrance to trade depot with fortifications.

Or zone it for drinking and set orders to only drink from a drinking zone.  What drives me nuts is when dwarves would rather get thirsty than drink wate when my booze pile gets low.

You've just inspired bad Dwarven Mining Shanty!
Also included are potential features that are most likely bad ideas.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Part of me wants to make a shanty thread so others can post their own verses without derailing this one.

DF Suggestions / Re: Gigantic turtles
« on: January 22, 2009, 10:57:12 am »
Then I'd need to add 'turtle' to my site finder requirements.
Giggle.

Hey, what about digging too deep in the turtle?

There would be a heart, with aeortas, which act like floodgates, letting blood to various parts of the body.

It would be awesome if digging to deep caused pressurized bood to spurt out and flood your fort...

Question: Is giant turtle blood hot enough to smelt stuff :D

DF Suggestions / Job interface improvements
« on: January 22, 2009, 10:50:07 am »
Creating a job through the job manager or the workshop if it would display the number of materials available for a job... This way we don't need to see how many raw gems we have on hand of each type etc...

Also it would be nice if we could set material profiles in the workshops(make stonecraft workshops or leather crafting workshops).

Dumb question How exactly does one build a temple?  Is it all implied or do I need to make statues until one is of an god(or FSM/whatever) and make that a room?

Instead of causing your dwarfs to spontaneously cumbust imp leather armor ought to make them resistant to fire damage...

It probably isn't worth it, I seriously doubt that Toady would get enough to cover legal fees.

That being said Three Panel probably ought site their sources, so to speak.  Maybe request that make a donation if they but the shirt or something.

I found it totally by accident and not through Three Panel though, so I don't know how they're advertising it.
