I also don't think sites affects more than the province they're in (take the one that hurts undead for example) and diseases probably isn't much different. I'm pretty sure however that undiscovered sites will still cause trouble. Though it seems unlikely that you have another one there. What you can do is check if provinces have unusual scales (like 3 death for instance) when they shouldn't. But I doubt that's the case here.

It seems kind of weird that many commaders would get disease instead of other afflictions from the lightning. If there's many commander and many afflictions to pick from.

DF Suggestions / Re: Actual skills
« on: July 16, 2014, 08:14:11 am »
I really like the idead of unskilled workers sometimes producing inferior-quality items (worse than standard), but I'd also add the probability to totally ruin the reagents or to suffer an accident, injuring others/yourself, starting a fire or toppling a workshop. That should be incentive enough to promote giving skills to your dwarfs and putting them to work according t their skillsets, and in future it will incentivize players to use apprentice mechanics when they're in.
However, the idead of requiring a skill point to try and do something strikes me as a bad and constraining one, to be honest.
Like the ideas but hope the injuries would be minor, might even be useful as a source of training for the medical dwarves outside missing limbs and the like you get from invaders. Starting fires seems really dangerous until some kind of countermeasure exists and toppling workshops seem like it would add micromanagement without any advantage (queue disappears, workshop must be rebuilt).

I also like the idea of bad thoughts from crafting and using inferior items.

I'm trying to get the Russkaya Pravda achievement and it's been ridiculously brutal.
If I recall correctly there's a duke on the normal starting date that already controls most (if not all) of it, just need to grab some piety by attacking pagans. But that's not particularly impressive nor dwarfy compared to what you're up to!

Can you set it to -1 AIP per 1 second?
Even if you could set it to a negative, reducing it increases the floor for it. Which means it would still increase sooner or later (without the possibility to reduce it again).

Flatout 2, cars and insanity for up to 8 players. There's mods as well when there's need for more weirdness.
Supreme commander (first one, or rather forged alliance. Second game was all kinds of meh) 8 players rts.
Men of war or its prequels, has co-op or various vs modes.
Mount and blade warband, some mindless fun for a couple of hours or so and there's some mods that will probably keep it interesting a while longer.
Warcraft 3 still has some good custom maps if you're willing to look around.

I never felt the graphics were a problem for the game, and actually kind of like the look. The interface is probably the only actual problem I have with the game. That and that large games tend to get a bit slow after a while but that's kind of my own fault.

I would perhaps have expected a bit more in the release, but at least it's less expensive than previously. Hopefully there will be something more in the updates to come after the release, there have been plenty of updates and fixes to previous releases at least. Modding support sounds good if someone picks it up and works it into something great, not sure how extensive it is though.

I'll probably end up buying it anyway since I already have the game and the expansions. I was under the impression that there would be some kind of preorder and getting some kind of coupon based on previous games you own but can't find how. Perhaps that's just after the release?

Hopefully the fortress itself will still be dwarfy.

I usually go for a shorter worldgen of 100-200 years.
Very high x/y or some combination variance with lots of subregions to get a large variation of biomes. I like settling in between 2 or more to make the game a little less predictable and give some more varation.
A bit over average in megabeasts and more minerals to make more areas interesting to settle. A lot of extra volcanoes if I want to settle on one.
I tend to remove good/evil biomes from large subregions to avoid there being no dwarf civs but not sure if that is still a thing.
I go with visible caves if I remember it because it's interesting to see where they end up and I'll take one if they're in a generally interesting location.

There's flying heroes, but that was more of a unreal tournament with flying things.

Stratosphere would fit. It's pretty old and not exacly about airships... but i think you should check it out anyway.

Basically you manually build a flying island/fortress out of power generators batteries and large assortment of weapons/gadgets and try to survive the tough as nails campaign.
I remember playing the demo of this long ago and I'm tempted to try to find it when I get the time. Would you say it's still good or decent?

Other Games / Re: Games that force you to 'stay small'
« on: May 05, 2014, 01:56:10 am »
I quit playing AI War because my ships' captains were all too dumb to live, didn't understand concepts like kinetic energy, inertia, etc, and even though everyone in the game, AI and human alike, believed in fixed weapons ranges, they still didn't understand the concept of falling back to remain outside enemy weapons range. They could not be trained to learn any of these things either.
Isn't there settings for those kind of things in the controls menu? I haven't actually tried them but pretty sure I recall settings to stay away from enemies.
