Backstory:

"Mhm? Oh, I'll be waiting for all of you here, you morons. Just don't yell at me if I get here late, okay?"

Franz didn't know that by when all his former classmates set foot in that plane, their fates would be written in stone.


Franz, a foreign student, born in a humble family from a country from Western Europe, used to be an easy-going, happy-go-lucky guy that always felt a close connection to nature. While he wasn't exactly knowledgeable or exceedingly smart, all that he felt that he needed was the in-field knowledge. Things for him were best learnt in practice, not in theory, and that's how it felt with everything he was a part of.

Franz recently travelled to Japan to enroll as a student of Our Lady of Hermelin High School after his classmates left for an end-term trip to Japan before disappearing and being given for dead. Before that incident, he used to be a thrill-seeking, care-free guy who always found comfort in the outdoors, often to the point of riling up groups of friends to take camp at the hills behind their old school, eat some marshmellows and tell spooky tales by the campfire.

After the disappearance of his classmates, and heavily affected by his humble life and the feeling of having been left behind, Franz withdrew into himself, becoming detached and dismissing as a slow, burning fury started to dwell deep within. He wanted answers - a reason why he was left behind.

Franz then took it on himself to work hard to afford the money for a trip of his own to Japan, managing to rent a small apartment on a suburb as he took odd jobs left and right attempting to fight off his landlord while keeping his needs in check - but after a couple months into the school year while, he managed to save enough yen to comfortably attend classes at Our Lady of Hermelin High School, enrolling as a 2nd Year student, while still making ends met with a shorter work shift.

But, shortly before that, during what he considered that would be his last shady work for that month, a chill ran down his spine as he felt a sharp pain on his neck. He had been ambushed. Meeting a dead-end as he ran, he turned around, with no other choice but to fight, until...

"I've traveled to unknown lands most men dream to visit.
I've fought battles that the best generals would wish to have in their favor.
I've been granted such sights that would keep up the restless awake at night.
And, make this clear, I've seen how this one petty, knives-out street fight ends."

I know everything that is about to unfold. Do you want to set your life in stone?"

A hooded individual reached out a blackened hand towards him, a bright grin being obscured by the black cloth that his body was covered with. The thugs - slowly transforming - on the other side of the street had frozen in place, as everything seemed to slow down and fall... still. It was now only him and the demon within.

A life that was predetermined... Where everything would no longer be his problem - where nothing was his issue to answer... No. It felt... too easy. That would be as good as giving up all what he wanted to do, all those answers he wished to pursue himself. The doubt remained, the lust for knowledge, for everything to be set... was there, yet... he wasn't pressed.

"Heh, no. I'll do this by myself."

And so, Franz awakened.
