DF Suggestions / Elf diplomacy & wilderness agitation
« on: March 13, 2024, 01:56:20 am »
Ever since the DFHack team released information on how the agitation system works (https://docs.dfhack.org/en/latest/docs/tools/agitation-rebalance.html#how-the-df-agitation-system-works) it set my mind running - Elven diplomacy is already pretty basic, so what about a new feature? In exchange for a much stricter tree-felling quota (or even not being allowed to cut down trees at all), the elves can offer to calm the wilderness around you and prevent them from attacking you, by resetting the agitation counter to 0.
This would be a neat little thing to make the world a little more lively, I think.

There is a way, it's simple enough to mod in that I used it to test modding in music.
You can't just *say* that and not tell me how :P

DF Suggestions / Let premium users have the classic music back!

Having played both v47 and the paid version of v50, I have to say that Dabu's work is incredible, but the original (two) songs just have that charm to them that I love. Unfortunately, only the free version of Dwarf Fortress has these tracks, and as far as I know there's not really a way to put them into the paid version.
Give us a toggle between the two soundtracks!

Couple of mistakes here.
-Silver warhammer should cost 78 points, not 76. (3x26)
-Competent Hammerman is only 30 points, not 50.

Your current gear and skills still work, but nets you 14.5 points remaining instead of 0.5. Up to you if you want to revise this or not
Adjusted, thanks!

Ooh, this sounds like fun. Why not? For guts and glory! But mostly guts.
NAME: Estu Amazon (Paint Fencecolors in Goblin)
RACE: Dwarf (yes, really. +220 pts)

Equipment:
  • Silver War Hammer (-78 pts)
  • Wooden Buckler (-22.5 pts)
Skills:
  • Competent Fighter (-18 pts)
  • Competent Hammerman (-30 pts)
  • Skilled Shield User (40 pts)
  • Novice Dodger (-5 pts)
  • Competent Observer (-9 pts)
  • Adequate Discipline (-9 pts)
  • Novice Wrestler (-4 pts)
SPENT: 219.5 pts
LEFTOVER: 0.5 pts

The Backstory:
Paint Fencecolors is a Dwarven teenager kidnapped from his parents at birth, before he was even given a name; likely for the best, as the fort his parents resided in was practically imploding. He grew up in the businesses of Goblin society, never quite losing that Dwarven lust for money, and the best broker one could ever call for if a deal started to go south. Humans from a different continent bestowed upon him a name in some eldritch tongue that they promised would bring good fortune and profits, so he adopted it. His old name sucked, anyways.

As he took in the new name, he felt some sort of Psycho Power, emanating from some kind of... See Vee Ess Two... which sounds totally made up, but you never know.
His ever-sharp (and definitely not pointy) ears have taken him to a business opportunity inside a business coliseum, where the top prize is enough dwarfbux to sleep on for the rest of your life. Hastily, he signed a contract, though he forgot to read the fine print saying that HE would be the competitor, not an invincible bark scorpion woman necromancer he had been training for the months prior... oh well. Time to put that psycho power to use!

EDIT: Readjusted skill numbers to accommodate for corrections.
EDIT2: Did the same thing again because I don't know how to read, apparently.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Avoiding Zone Overlap Penalties

...though I've never linked a Hospital to a Dormitory before, interesting idea!...
Fantastic write-up, this really helped a lot! Thank you!
As for assigning a hospital to a dormitory, I figured that since it wouldn't count as a meeting area, any unfortunate dwarves who happen to be in the vicinity of severely wounded fellows wouldn't be unnecessarily traumatized, especially children. Also, since I've given everybody a bedroom, nobody should sleep in there.

DF Gameplay Questions / Avoiding Zone Overlap Penalties

Hi all, first post here so please be nice.  :P
I have a small fortress running and I'm trying to have a room simultaneously be a hospital and a doctor guildhall without having the zones overlap and give a value penalty to the rooms, in case a doctor guild actually *does* get established. Is it possible to combine a dormitory and meeting area like this?

Attached image is my attempt; red area is a dormitory marked as a hospital.
