I heard that magic existed in the early pre-release versions of the game, but were later removed. Does anyone know why Toady decided to remove it?

Unfortunately no. I don’t think they were ever released publicly, which is a bummer because I was really curious about them. At least we still have some old videos of them.

Unfortunately, aluminum is pretty terrible as an armor material. I don’t think artifact armor gives that big of a bonus compared to masterwork armor, so you aren’t really missing that much. You could probably put it on display in a noble’s room or a guildhall to easily increase room value. That’s really the only thing that artifacts are good for anyway, apart from artifact doors, floodgates and mechanisms.

I try to equip my military with bone armor but it is nowhere to be seen in the material list. Is it there or does it not exist in the steam version.

More search bars and menus need to be added. The ability to assign dwarves to labours, positions, etc from their unit screen. An "interrogate everyone" button for the justice system. The ability to see the unit screen of a dead citizen/animal. The list goes on.

Marksdwarves are buggy as hell. Trap it in an area using a random stray animal as bait and drawbridges to block it in. You can then either kill it with a cave-in or turn the place it's trapped in into your own rancor pit.

From what I've seen, areas around a volcano will usually lack a sedimentary layer a skip right to the other layers. That means that you're sacrificing abundance of coal, iron and flux for easy magma forges and more gold/silver. Platinum is also harder to get.

How do you dig in the walls studded with gems relatively safely? I keep running into annoying pockets of water and lava.

I think we’ll have to wait until the moving fortresses update for new siege engines. The current ones are just remnants from 2D Df.

I knew about the “tightly closed” thing. I thought that maybe a new kind of building that permanently has this function without being toggle-able wouldn’t create pathfinding issues, but maybe I’m wrong.
