DF Community Games & Stories / Re: Reclaiming the Homeland
« on: August 10, 2008, 05:10:20 pm »
13th Moonstone, 201 - The miners have made a gruesome discovery in the woods a short distance to the east.  It appears to be a crude cave carved into the side of a hill.  Bones, which I've been assured are human, were scattered around in the cave show and signs of being carved up with knives.  I've heard stories about the elves eating their enemies, but I never really believed them until today.

I shudder to think if this was the fate that befell poor Solon or Minkot.  The longears will pay dearly if their tongues have known the taste of dwarven flesh!

I've ordered the cave to be collapsed.  May it serve as burial enough for the poor souls who found their end there.

So what actually happened here? Sorry if i'm not supposed to post in this thread...

DF Modding / Re: Random Mods you've done (possible spoilers)

Aside from that, I messed with ethics tags a bit so goblins will go to war more often (they eat people now), and elves a little less often (they don't eat people now). I can't wait till we can start wars on our own, though.

I'm pretty sure gobbo's always ate people. I've seen humans in vanilla DF warring with gobbos because of consuming sentient beings.

So the
(next time, it'll let them use mounts/pullers/pack animals of any kind as well, but I'm not sure this matters in the stock raws)

Wait, don't they already do this with camels and muskoxen? They don't have the [COMMON_DOMESTIC] tag. Or do the [PACK_ANIMAL] and [WAGON_PULLER] tags imply the [COMMON_DOMESTIC] tag right now?

Dragon Civ - with claw/crossbows that shoot poles.

You should rig them up to shoot swedes too.  :P

Sorry, but the response to the thread title is: Well, duh.

DF Bug Reports / Re: 39f - Ice blocks not being dumped
« on: August 10, 2008, 12:14:57 am »
It won't work anyways. Melted ice blocks give you water 'items' which your dwarves will clean up like vomit.

Unmined ice walls will melt to give flowing water.

This game has a lot of "Kennedy arrows" that pierce seemingly distant parts of the body at the same time, from weird angles.

The leading excuse reasoning is that the projectile ricochet around and/or fragment themselves/bones.

DF Suggestions / Re: Animal Pasture designation spot
« on: August 10, 2008, 12:02:25 am »
So I was doing a search and saw that the last time this was suggested was a year ago, so I thought maybe it was time for this to be brought up again:

Hey! Something like this (the function: to control captured/tame animal movement) was not most recently suggested a year ago. More like a couple months. Used different wording of course.

Called it a corral instead of a pasture. http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=19641.msg205148#msg205148

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Only one barracks at a time?
« on: August 09, 2008, 11:53:46 pm »
I've had four barracks at one time, but they were all set up before i had a military. The coated all four in blood. Those were the barracks for commonfolk to sleep in too.  :P

I mean, no Command and Conquer, or Warcraft?

I think Warcraft and Starcraft are under 'Blizzard strategy'.

I don't think [PREFSTRING:(something)] should ever have anything to do with a creature's edibility or flavor. [PREFSTRING:(something)] is for when they like those creatures, not when they like to eat those creatures.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Caged Goblins
« on: August 09, 2008, 03:15:52 pm »
So when you disarm goblins in cages, how does it work? Do you have to 'build' the cage as a room and then select the goblin inside and put 'dump' orders on his clothes, and the dwarves will come and get the clothes without releasing the goblin? Or can you do it straight from the cage? I mean, it would be easier if I didn't have to build the building. It's annoying when I buy dogs or cows and have to build the cage in order to let them out. ^.^;;

You have to do it from the stocks screen, look for narrow items. The way i do it is to pause the game first, go to the stockpile and dump all narrow armor and GCS silk items and iron weapons (especially ones that dwarves can't use), then using designation to 'undump' all items already in my stockpiles (and hunt down every equipped soldier to make sure i'm not dumping their equipment). Tedious, but it gets the job done. You don't need to build the cages to do so either.

Also, with those animals you buy you just need one built cage. Then you put all your bought animals in that cage. Then you release all of them once they're in the cage.
