General Discussion / Re: When Kickstarter goes wrong?

One wonders what an adult could have accomplished with those millions.

Of course, someone more impoverished than myself might levy the same criticism against me.

Unless the avatar is an image of a character I recognize, or it is something that I cannot anthropomorphize, I attribute it to the poster. All people with pony avatars are ponies, Darvi is that person with the shifty eyes, Armok is a pair of red eyes and a mouth, Aqizzar as a big chin, Merchant of Menace is a white she-wolf, and freeformschooler has a stick body and a weird head. This is not an exhaustive list.

The little voice in my head that reads stuff sounds like me.

In my insecurity and egoism, I am much eager to know how I am perceived.
Dapper abomination. Always.

Also, it's a fox.
Sorry, corrected. You would think a monstrous canine would know that.

I see a cat in a hat and a scarf.

I tend to base my impression of someone else by their avatar. I used to think fllqve (spelling?) was a woman for a long time because he had a picture of what I presumed to be a female.

e: As you may have already guessed, you are both ponies.
I imagine you as an eldritch abomination in a tophat and monocle.
I am most pleased! This made my day.

What about the ?! punctuation...
I do not use it myself, but I can understand that one. English makes no provisions for exclamatory questions, and the interrobang is not part of the ASCII encoding.

Ninja’d.

Does anyone have certain words or phrases that just piss them off? I've got a few.
Yes. I am the grand high master of being pissed off by things other people say.

Do. Yes, do has common, valid uses, but one does not need to use it so much as my kin do. They do the laundry. They do the dishes. They do the chickens—yes, I tell them how that last one sounds. Do do do do. Wash and clean and feed have the same number of syllables as do does, so it would cost little to be specific.

By definition. Some things are true by defintion—if one is talking about linguistics or something, but people use it in places where it does not belong. It implies that, if the definitions change, the truth would change, so, if that is not the case, it is being misused.

Honey. This word seems to have become a generic term for “spouse”. It is dull and trite. One’s spouse has a name—use it.

OK. The worst part is, I use this one myself. Most of the time I think to say “Understood,” or “Acknowledged,” but OK comes out sometimes.

Excessive punctuation. This one is neither a word or phrase, but I do not understand why anyone thinks to use more than one question mark or exclamation point. More question marks do not make the sentence more interrogative, and more exclamation points do not make the sentence more exclamatory. I call it The Law of the Conservation of Exclamation.

I feel sorry for people who grow up too fast. No offense or anything, but, like... don't hate on meaningless fun.
I suspect that, if growing up faster is a bad thing, you are doing it wrong.

5 year? I thought you were younger than I!

I'm only 20, my friend. I've been through many situations and experienced many things that take a lifetime to go through, and others that would best be left out of one's life. I'd like to think I've grown more mature and strong from my experiences, though it leaves me a bit alienated from those my age.

Folks my age are drinking, partying, screwing everything that moves without a care in the world, and I've been nearly married, managed my own business, have multiple business licenses, have lived in multiple countries, and most importantly, survived through one hell of a fucked-up childhood, if one could dare call it that.

I don’t always drink beer, but, when I do, I prefer Dos Equis.
Fixed that for you.

I was hoping for something more along the lines of... your being scanned and tested for a secret black ops mission to stave off the alien invasion of 2012 =/
Well, if you were, you failed for sure, as you were blown to pieces.

I had assumed that, if it were about pants, it would have been pants, as there is hardly any need for the ‘u’.

I was also too lazy to Google it.

Life Advice / Re: Discussions and debates

Of course there is sometimes a very fine distinction between the two, such as between 'that frog is ugly' and 'I do not find looking at that frog enjoyable', which are statements which have similar meanings as used in normal conversation, but only the later of which has an actual truth value.
This is almost accurate. “That frog is ugly,” and “I do not find looking at that frog enjoyable,” have exactly the same meaning, and they both have truth value. The former is contructed like a statement about the frog’s properties, but it is, in truth, making a statement about how the speaker’s mind is reacting to the frog. “That frog is ugly to me,” is implicit. (All this assumes the speaker realizes that. If the speaker thinks that ugly is on the Periodic Table, there is a problem.) Opinions are most certainly either true or false, it just happens that people know their own consciousness fairly well, so it tends to be true and nigh impossible to contest anyway, as one has no means of probing another’s mind yet. This is all made worse by the fact that humans, being of the same species, share some common ideas about what is or is not ugly, so it makes it look yet more like a statement about the frog (And it might be, if the speaker means “That frog has properties that most humans find ugly.”)

The word opinion is just a quick hack to cope with English’s idioms.

I just assumed that basic training was basic information on how to do the job. The head punchers would be weeded out by a system that proscutes violent crimes even if the offender is a white man in a blue uniform.

Of course, in an ideal system, people would stop the excessive punching of heads before they reach adulthood, but it seems that such is not feasible to implement.

I am in the US :P

If I were in Korea, 'mechanical pencil' would be translated as 'sharps (or sha-pu)', and 'pencil lead' as 'sharp cores (sha-pu-shim)'. Queer, right? >.> I have no idea whatsoever why they decided to call mechanical pencils as 'sharps'.
In the US, if you ask for a sharps, they’ll point you to the guns-and-ammunition department.
