I do not want officers that require training to know that one does not needlessly punch people in the head.

That is ridiculous—1.34 years is 16.08 months!

Remember the context of that post. MorleyDev was insisting that, if one examined every selfless act closely enough, one would find benefits for the actor. My point was that, even though he finds those benefits upon close inspection, people perform those acts without seeing those benefits, and thus do not peform the acts for those selfish benefits.

You do seem to be implying that you are in it for yourself, and, therefore, would not help others if there was no gain to be had for you.

Despite the fact that Obama is doing a lousy job at destroying America like we all know he was planning, you need to give the man some props. Not only is he the first black president, but he is the first Muslim communist dictator to be a non-dictator of a non-communist country and not worship Allah. Now that takes skill.

So I've got a great idea for a story to start writing, but I'm really hung up on what to name these people... This is a typical problem for me.

*sigh*
Write the story with placeholders and fill in the names when they come to you.
Ever since I was beaten up by people I thought were my friends in elementary school for saying maybe, I feel like I can't trust anyone and that anyone that I try to befriend only stay with me for a couple months before never speaking with me ever again.
The trust thing strikes me as a little weird... Are you saying you're worried people are going to beat the crap out of you if you become their friends? Because that kind of thing is rather rare... and prosecutable outside of elementary school.
Feelings of fear are not always rational, especially those that you get after a traumatic experience.

I'm fine with the concept of tit-for-tat, reciprocal altruism. That's just another aspect of the social contract. I hold door open for you, you hold door open for me, everybody get through door in timely manner.

If you analyse every single "selfless" act in enough depth you'll find a reason for them to act as a result of self-interest, or at least genetic interest. The closest you get to exceptions tend to involve extreme brainwashing, such as military service.

Selflessness is a cute little lie we tell ourselves and society, I've seen no support for it. And I don't think it somehow dampens or darkness a single damn thing anybody has done.
I have doubts that anyone calculates the benefits of helping others before deciding to be altruistic. Yes, being altruistic has benefits, but that does not mean that everyone has those in mind when they do it. I don’t.

The western world has it's own version of moe anthropomorphism.

It's called Rule 85.
Rule 85 is clearly invalid. I exist, and there is yet no pony version of me.

It is probably some quick publicity for his book. This is likely the only means by which he could ever get his works in the press.

Except for the device, I see nothing in those lists that are not already all together in multiple earlier works. Even the Bible has manichean conflicts, assassins, and Jesus.

e: I suppose the point is that all of that together with the device makes him unhappy.

Yay for celebrating the adoption of your bill of rights by launching a campaign of ethnic cleansing against the Irish!  Although to be fair the US celebrated the bill of rights by launching such a campaign against the Indians.

...  Is there some sort of god of human rights that demands blood sacrifice whenever you seal a contract?
No, it is the law of the Conservation of Evil.

So... Threatening the president? inciting criminal acts? conspiracy?
None, I would guess. He used a violent metaphor, but I doubt it was meant as an explict instruction.

I wish he had cited his sources, as I would like to know how many of our soliders have had their legs blown off “for the Constitution”.

Ehndras, if you type it again, I would like to receive a copy of your message if it is not too personal. Your worldview sounds interesting.

I mean ‘interesting’ genuinely, of course. One might suppose I mean it as a euphemism for something less kind.
