Other Games / Re: Wii or PS3/Xbox360?
« on: November 09, 2009, 03:04:54 am »
Thanks for the responses guys.
The fact that you need to pay for online stuff on the 360 pretty much crosses it off my list, I have no source of extra cash and will probably find myself bankrupt pretty quickly. I've been looking at some games for the PS3 and they all look pretty darn good, even if they do require tons of button mashing. I don't think they sell blu-ray here in Israel yet, so I won't be using the blu-ray player for quite a while. The Wii does seem to have less games, but as far I remember (I'm 14, so I don't remember too far) most of Nintendo's newer consoles didn't have many games either. The N64 had something like 100 memorable ones. The Wii is cheaper, but I think I'll go with the PS3.

I love the way all this leader stuff is going. I eagerly await the next release.
Will we be able to breed animals for use as mounts? I'd love to make a croc farm and have an army of crocodile riders.

And a random-ish question, how did you do the dwarf/elf/etc. language stuff? Did you sit down and just translate every word in the dictionary to dwarfish? Or did you have a program randomly put together words?

Other Games / Wii or PS3/Xbox360?

Hey folks, I'm thinking of spending some cash, but I don't really know what spend it on. I'm thinking of purchasing a console, something I haven't done before (Except for last year when I bought a DS, and seven years ago, when a friend gave me his PS2). What I'm looking for is a console that's got fun, casual party games, the ones you play with a ton of friends, and not crazy AAABABLRLRLLLLABOHSHITGAMEOVER! hardcore button mashers. From what I understand so far, the Wii has just that.

I'm no expert though, so I ask you fellow Bay12ers and console owners, which console would suit my needs better, the PS3/Xbox (Sticking these together because they're more or less the same game variety wise) or the Wii? And which is a better console in general?

Finally, I got my PS2 in America, and it only supports games purchased from the US (Or that area, or something. I'm not really good with this stuff, I think it has to do with ntsc and pal or something). Does the same thing happen with the newer consoles?

General Discussion / Re: I went to a Beethoven Concert last night

All I'm thinking about is that concert, I think I won't think till I see another, I sat in awe throughout the whole thing.

Lets post some bits of music, to start it off, J.S. Bach's Little Fugue, one of my favorite pieces. Tchaikovsky's March of the Toys, taken from The Nutcracker.

My grandmother goes to most concerts in our area (There's only one place they play over here, unless you drive to one of the larger cities); she says I'm welcome to come with her whenever I want. Most kids usually enjoy fast paced music like rock and whatnot, which is fine, but some show terrible disrespect to all other forms of music. I really do hope this stuff doesn't die with its supporters.

Angellus, it could be Maurice Ravel's Boléro (Incomplete, highest quality I could find).

I eagerly await the end of November, I'm dieing to go to another concert.

General Discussion / I went to a Beethoven Concert last night
« on: November 01, 2009, 01:12:31 pm »
Last night I went to a concert with music by L.V. Beethoven. I was really excited, this was the first concert I ahd ever been to. It was just amazing, Beethoven is an awesome composer, and the orchestra played his music quite nicely. The pieces that played were: Overture 'Leonore' no. 3, Piano Concerto no. 3, and his 3rd symphony (And two other piano only pieces, I think one was Khachaturian's Sabre Dance). The pianist was awesome, and the orchestra was one of Israel's best (The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra). All in all it was really great.
One thing was really strange though, most of the people were beyond their fifties. This makes me think, is classical music slowly dieing?
Anyway, lets discuss concerts, classical music, and if we are gonna be able to hear Beethoven, Mozart, Bach and many others in about fifty years.

Did they mention AI? It may be pretty hard getting AI that actually works is such a game, with all time the traveling.
Generaly, this looks pretty good. Hopefully they don't screw something up really bad.

Other Games / Re: Steam

Also, Steam seems to have a crapload of bugs for me for some reason. Like how whenever a game that runs on Steam turns off, an error message will always pop up telling me GameOverlayUI has encountered an error and needs to shut down or sometimes it just randomly crashes for no reason. Etc.
Another reason why I don't like to work with machines or programs. When purchasing a game at the store, the guy selling won't just take my money and crash because of some kind of error. Though, I don't really have a problem with stuff like Amazon.com, this is mainly because I actually get what I ordered. I don't receive some info saying I have the game on my account, I get the actually game, the CD and everything.

I don't really like steam. I like seeing the games I purchase, and knowing they exist and aren't going to disappear someday. I've also heard of tons of people who got their steam accounts hacked, and lost everything they've purchased (What do they call that thing with the broken eggs and a basket?). I also have a hard time trusting people (Machines?) with my money, but that's just me.

Life Advice / Learning Russian?
« on: October 09, 2009, 08:36:03 am »
I want to Russian. But I'm kinda stuck, where should I start? I don't want to spend money on classes, but I don't have a problem with purchasing books. The main things I'm looking for are vocabulary and grammar lessons, I already know how the alphabet works. So, any tips, or links to websites, books etc. ?
