Terraria spends a year or so updating: 800 new items, new bosses, new progression, entirely new mechanics

Minecraft spends a year or so updating: New boats

I couldn't stand the sound and camera work to watch the whole fifteen minutes, but it did look like there was more than just boats happening. They showed off a really fast portal transition, and various additional effects that could point to a lot of background changes. Still nothing exciting, but if they did rewrite the game in C++/C# that would explain why things were silent for so long. Does that mean future updates might be faster? Who knows.

Cripes, has anyone else noticed it crashing an awful lot? Maybe I'm just playing for too long at a stretch and tripping a memory leak. It looks like it saves the player state and the world state in separate steps (might be when it crashes?), since I definitely lost some flippers after reorganizing things into chests...only for it to crash to a point before I put up any chests.

Got really lucky and found a marble cave, connected to a granite cave, connected to an abandoned railway running through the underground snow. A medusa got herself wedged into a tiny passage between two big tunnels, meaning I could smack her with my demonic yo-yo with no real risk. She drops a medusa head. This is the first spell I've run into so far, after maxing my mana with a few too many nights above ground. I'ma go make Cthulhu's various body parts explode. Maybe go over to a world with corruption to smack the Eater of Worlds around.

Is there any word about when us lowly serfs can expect it to update? i.e. those of us who didn't get to be let in on the super secret early update?

Hi guys,

I own Pokemon X and Y and have roster of about 40 competitive-bred 'mons. All is legit and bred by myself.

If I buy ORAS, will I be able to transfer them and still change their movesets via Move Deleter and Relearner, given that I am not the Original Trainer in ORAS?
I'm reasonably sure the only thing you can't do with a traded 'mon is change it's name. Other than that there's bonus exp and obedience issues, but I don't think there's any problem with changing their moves around. (they want people to trade with each other, after all)

Doesn't Twilight Forest have those giant hills stuffed with ore? Or is ore gen reduced there, too?
Its not reduced there. Its certainly a viable route.

I never needed to because I had chests full of thaumcraft's gold coins which each become gold nuggets and you can do a 1:1 transmutation of gold nuggets to iron nuggets. Redstone and other materials were never a problem.

Fair enough. Y'all have convinced me to try it, anyway. I think someone mentioned it as having quests that made for a good starting point for the various magic mods? Is that accurate?

Do we want Expert mode active on the eventual 1.3 server? Or, not to get too deep into multi-server mayhem, on a 1.3 server?

1.3 changelog: http://forums.terraria.org/index.php?threads/1-3-changelog.20617/
How spoilery is this? I sort of feel like being pleasantly surprised by new things when I pick it up tomorrow.

If you get DST, you get Reign of Giants free: you just need to create a friends only server and then not invite anyone for the single player experience.

So it means that there is no more reason to buy dont starve vanilla + dlc, if you can get together that will have everything in it + more?

Sort of. There are a few difference between Vanilla and Together even if you're just playing by yourself, even leaving out the Realm of Giants Stuff. I haven't played enough of either Together or RoG to really give a good review of it, though. Can you turn off RoG in Together? I know it's on by default.

Everybody wants to play through the game, and if you're going to host you're probably less likely to deal with other servers? Personally I mostly play through each update the once, so this sounds fine to me.

I was actually just about to ask how bigger multiplayer servers tend to work. Everything multiplayer I've ever done in Terraria has been small (1-3 friends). Makes me wonder about a game mode where multiple worlds are linked together (like always gets discussed for Minecraft, is supposed to be done for Oort Online, etc.).

My friends once hosted a Minecraft server on a literal cardboard box. To be fair, there were computer parts in the box. And likewise the usual assortment of programs running on said computer parts, but the point stands. (granted it got really impressively hot, and was probably a fire hazard, but y'know) Don't underestimate underpowered hardware. If anything, I'd say it'd be worth trying just for the data.

"Mandible Calavera."  Hee~, and I just picked up the Grim Fandango remaster from GOG's summer sale, too. ^_^

I wonder how much of this is going to be behind the Wall wall, so to speak, like Hallow and the Twins, and how much of it is being added to the game before like the aesthetically-alternate ores.
Yeah, I'm really curious how much of this is width versus length. It looks like the Dryad and Nurse have some role during boss battles--only during expert mode? Are those new boss mechanics expert-mode only or what? I think I've managed to play through to hard mode legitimately...once? Twice? And never stayed attentive long enough to play all the way through it. If all the neat mechanics are behind the Wall wall, or way behind the Wall wall, it's gonna be a test to see if I can finally stick through it. Hopefully some of them will make getting there less sloggy for me.
