It's a shame boats are so awful, because a custom Water World survival experience might be really neat. Are there any good boat mods? Or would people need to resort to train tracks over the water?

I'm torn between my desire for tiny fictional murderhobos to do well, and my desire for needless drama.

My healer was struck down by a meteor while in the cellar. As far as I can tell, it must have been a wild surge caused by being in an alternate plane of existence. YASD?

Anyone else playing this? I know Akura's posts were what keyed me in on the game to begin with.

EDIT: Druids are very, very nice early game. Especially when you luck into a Satyr Lord familiar. Less great is wandering into a tough area which, despite having Oven in the name, I never thought might be full of fire-immune enemies--with my only consistent damage being fire.

Yeeep. That's how any games I've tried with mist elves or merchants typically go. Death really early. Never tried mist elf+merchant together though, wow that's squishy. I didn't kill anything and survived for not even 2 days.

That sums up just about all I know about ADOM. :P

How about Droozt the male Dark Elf Ranger for another go?

Pretty much everything can learn Dig, if you picked up the TM for that on Route 4. It won't help against Emolga, but it does good damage.

In the time that Valve launched it, here's what they've done:

1. Removed the dislike button (so you can only rate things positive)
2. Banned dissenters
3. Removed reviews
4. Shut down front page comments
5. Banned groups opposed to the idea

Wow, seriously? I'm reserving judgement on paid mods for the moment, but this is about the worst possible way to handle it from a PR perspective. For a platform that relies on community and word of mouth, these sure are terrible ways to maintain goodwill. I mean, Streisand Effect much?

Also, if you have trouble with bone shield specifically, try to get some extra damage types. For weapons that's easy enough, but for spells you pretty much need the few artifacts that add damage conversion. Every tick of every type of damage counts as a different attack as far taking out layers of bone shield.

The Horned horror is nasty. For a lot of people, it's enough to make the alternate Maze layout the last Tier 2 dungeon they do. That grab is even worse if you're a spellcaster, since it silences you. A Wild infusion can clear at least some of the debuffs it hits you with, and teleporting (which you can only do through items if you're still silenced) will break his hold. I don't remember whether the various jumping skills will break a pin, but it seems plausible. As a summoner, you might want to invest in a psychoportation torc if you can find one, but failing that just stay as far away from the big nasties as you can.

I like LOTR. Read all the books several times when I was younger. I've never been much into fighting/action games in general, though I do enjoy Skyrim (set on one of the easier difficulties). Basically, if I can cut through everything without dying often (keeping in mind that I really kind of suck at this type of game), I might have fun. If it makes me feel like a badass.

When you do die, it's usually a slap on the wrist. Some orcs end up with really powerful combination of traits (e.g. immunity to easy takedowns, a fast ranged weapon, and poison) that can make them hard to beat, but I think in principle they can mostly be avoided until you've leveled up enough to change things up. The skills and combo system definitely leave you feeling pretty badass once you've leveled up, and you can often beat groups of enemies without charging in and taking them out one-by-one.

My impression of SoM is that it's a really cool open world fightan' game right up until the very end of the game. Then you have to deal with dead easy gimmick bosses and it's over. This is about the cheapest I've seen it not on a dirt-cheap-but-sketchy key-reseller, but honestly I've got no idea how much the season pass is worth. It sounds like the major DLC (Bright Lord and Lord of the Hunt) may not be great, for story or gameplay.

(Personally, I don't think the LoTR aspects were very strong, and some of the additions they made feel very strange, so I would have been happier if they'd tried to place it in their own world--but I admit there are definitely advertising advantages to placing it in a known, popular universe, and it probably saves them some exposition.)

Holy cow. Does that EXP actually match up with the difficulty or are you just a steamroller now?

So the...uh, interesting thing about gelding with teeth is it's actually pretty humane. Lambs recover pretty quickly (with one small exception). The real unpleasant yet "more modern" method involves using hefty elastic bands to cut off circulation until things just...stop working. This is exactly as terrible as it sounds for the animal. So rest easy knowing it could always be worse.

On normal at least I don't think that Crystals are worse than Rhaloren camp. It comes down to whether you have good ranged damage or closers. A few points in Rush and enough patience (always, always 'R'est before moving on after a fight) are usually enough even for pure melee characters. Heart of Gloom is a crapshoot because sometimes the level generator will plunk you down in the middle of a giant room filled with enemies, possibly including the boss. If you're okay missing out on the loot sitting on the floor (does anyone know what zones will despawn your loot?), you can always hop back up a floor if things look dicey.

That advice about Trollmire 4 is good in general: if a door gives you a warning, take it seriously. Those are vaults, and they can mess up your day if you do them too early. The really gnarly early non-scripted vaults are in Kor'Pul and Rhaloren Camp.

The Graveyard is actually kind of funny, because waiting too long will probably make it harder in my experience. Rare Eternal Bone Giants are no joke! I'm not really sure what the sweet-spot is, aside from the fact that it will vary by class.

Wow, that's some hilarious natural selection. It's a shame you can't selectively breed stronger adventurer patrols to wipe out the Zigs...and, for that matter, that destroying Ziguranth doesn't stop the patrols.
