Nist Akath is where the Elves send people they don't like. because people die in Nist Akath children. If the Madness doesn't get you then the bath sure will. or the food.

army arc. i already understand the graphics and have no trouble so army arc. yeah its selfish but he has also been working on it for a while
In what world is the mouse the most efficient interface device? You have to zip back and forth across the screen; the keyboard can have as many as 10 commands put in one after another in about a second.

Is that an honest question? Because I think the answer is pretty obvious. I give you an example: Designate an area of forest to be copped down. With keyboard: D - F - K (no idea what the actual letters are, too long since I last played), arrow key, arrow key, arrow key, arrow key, arrow key, arrow key, arrow key, arrow key, arrow key, arrow key, arrow key, ... (I stop here because I think you got the point, but it may very well be more arrow keys..), Enter. With mouse: click D, click F, click K (no difference until here), click on ground, drag mouse, click on ground, done.
actually b-t shift left arrow shift left arrow shift down arrow shift down arrow enter.
i know some freaky shit! or i just use the help interface.

Hi!

While having said what I seriously think on the issue, there is a little random thought I want to share, which comes to mind whenever we get the graphics debate going.

I am wondering, how would people react if Toady One was actually a huge fan of really cute manga/anime for girls (like the ones by Fujida Maguro - just look at the frogs) and finally decided to incorporate graphics in the game - in exactly that style. You know, cute, big-eyed dwarves, adorable cats, dogs, horses, and even zombies that make you go "awww, how cute!" rather than anything else. I wonder how people would respond to this pink, sugary Dwarf Fortress.

Deathworks
you mean the pink sugary fortress with the weapon traps that sever heads and mangle brains and the magma falls that are used to dispose of the cutey wooty zombies. that would be awesome and yet profoundly disturbing. good on you for mentioning it and i am so trying to mod that when i figure out how,

"unless you rename it elf fortress. and then we will be angry fans"

And quite possibly eat you.

does this mean that the next update will be the army arc?

Right now we have a sandbox mode gameplay. We have this sandbox mode since DF became public. After the Army Arc will be implemented, the game won't be in sandbox mode anymore...

It'll still be in sandbox mode, it'll just have another option you may or may not wish to do. Conquering the Infinite Continent of Mules is fun, but I doubt it would be any more mandatory than building a 500-foot tall statue of Sean Connery out of puddingstone.
and yet no less enjoyable

Dwarf Fortress is like fine wine, the longer it is developed the better the end result will be :).
That is the absolute best way of describing DF

Overall I think this thread went well in terms of not flaming the guy as much as it you could have. it was a complaint voiced badly and that is all. DF will still be fun for years to come and nothing is going to change that save the death of toady. (god forbid)

I would fire cats and kittens. sadistic YES! affective no.

seriously it took ages for people to reply and given the rapidity that it usually happens i thought i created a thread that died before it started. thanks for you incite and my other idea was freezing water in mid air so the shards flew down and shattered, causing shards to go everywhere causing gore damage but not piercing because of the high body count that would rack up.

"I'm gimli I'm going to bitch and moan because a single person who is developing a unique and very original game for free who has devoted much of their time to making said game is not making it fast enough for me because I'm a spoiled shit."
-slappy moose

well he comes across as one of those instant gratification type people but that was unnecessary and vulgar. he made a dumb mistake and everyone is acting in a typical DF way, making jokes whilst occasionally pointing out the flaws in gimili's argument. Don't stoop to the level of those who infest youtube. he is wrong, yes, but still that gives you no right to insult him like that.

Incidentally development is proceeding at an amazing pace for a 2 person project and if you really have the audacity to complain about a game that the author does for free and is still in alpha then don't post here. post somewhere else and don't bother us with irrelevant arguments. if there is a bug post it in the bug section or if you think that there is something that can improve the game post in the suggestion forum but don't come here and complain that the game is not that great and hasn't changed as much as you expected when
1. that's you own opinion and you can't have done much research because of the amazing amount of changes that have gone on behind the scene and
2. this game is in the stage that wouldn't be considered playable if it was being made by Ubisoft or another big name developer. It's an alpha. alpha as in supremely unfinished. not done.

please don't start posts like this. there is really no point. even now i have only gone over the arguments everyone else has presented.

this has been a grammatically incorrect rant by
-Jackrabbit, that weird guy who hangs around forums.

If you build a refuse pile to store rotten stuff and corpses, it should take care of itself

any rotten things because I don't usually notice them until they are actually rotten. so if they dumped prior to the whole "whoops miasma" thing that would be nice. or pest animals corpses are just dumped automatically. Either would help
