DF General Discussion / Re: [PLANEPACKED] The statue itself.
« on: September 28, 2009, 04:13:56 pm »
I always imagined this crazy Planepacked statue as something along the lines of Trajan's column. That's the only way I could imagine it having so many engravings without looking utterly ridiculous - it's *all* engravings.

I do like your version of it. :) But I wonder how it would look covered in oh so many engravings.

I realized something making this, I am not sure were the limits for "NSFW" go with any great precision; [...] And we also have the fact abaut the forum guidlines, "Do not discuss sexually oriented material" seems quite ambigus

Pfft. Nudity is not inherently sexual, and calling Michelangelo's David "sexually oriented" would be a freaking travesty.

That said, it'd probably be best to avoid any swinging dorf dongs. :p

I'm not sure if oil was used in the time period that Toady wants this fantasy setting to replicate...

Petroleum has been used by humans since the days of Babylon, according to Wikipedia. Though mostly unrefined; distillation is comparatively recent, but still dates back at least to the 9th century. Interesting stuff. :)

DF Suggestions / Re: "Spoils of War" in Stocks Screen
« on: September 19, 2009, 01:40:16 pm »
...I think that items from dead enemies should be in a separate filing in the stocks screen for Spoils of War.

While it's not critically important, it'd help for players who want to measure their self-sufficience and go for a low score on caravan imports.

Good idea, and possibly relatively straight-forward to implement. :)

Good idea? Bad idea?

Awesome idea. :) I would love to see this.

There are some instructions in the old release notes for 0.0.5. They are rather outdated.

Cheers, I'll take a look. :)

Really neat stuff. :) I enjoyed checking out the outside of my fortress.

A couple of (obvious) usability suggestions:

- Tooltips on the UI buttons would be awesome. It took me a while to figure out what everything did.
- A "restore camera to default height and angle"-function would be nice.

Btw, are there any written instructions anywhere? I may not be using it correctly.

Also. I wouldn't like colliding camera. I use it to get into places like vast underground tombs and such. Also, it would make going down stairs a bitch.

Heh. If ever implemented, I assume it would be a toggle. :)

If people would find me an example texture that they would prefer that would help.

Not the *very* best, but a quick google found me this:

Wow, awesome towers. :)

This app continues to impress, thanks for all the effort Baboonanza. :)

Grey Hunter and Volfram, your work looks great. :)

^-- I agree with everything Veroule wrote. :)

Toady has given his blessing to at least one such enterprise in the past.  I think his main concern would be with shirts that besmirch the DF name via obscenity or whatever.

Screw obscenity, let's stick with the classic DF team of ultraviolence. I'd *love* a black t-shirt with the design in the OP. :) Heck, I'd buy two..

I was rather upset about the long editing period.

Geez. It was only a couple of days. :)

I guess it might be more fun though if the talks went up on the first of every month, along with the monthly project update. Maybe it wouldn't be hard if the actual recording was made a week or two in advance? Although adding any deadlines at all to this production might take the fun out of it for the people involved.. Anyway, just a thought.

WHOA! Lets not up the sound effects (especially since they much louder then the Audio and very intrusive), it was refreshing but it aint Mentos.

Hehe, I thought they were kinda funny, it was the sudden spike in volume that scared the crap out of me. :p

Sure, why not. :) I sent $10.

Like what thing is going on something there?

It's really cool, but you need "Scamps" in there somewhere!

It's not hand-made, but automatically generated based on the contents of the transcript. :)

I love the editing! The music really adds a lot. I do find the brief pauses in the talk are a bit too short; just let the music run for 10-20 seconds more. It makes for more relaxed listening (great idea with these breaks by the way). I think some BBC radio interviews are done in the same way.

Agree about the editing, it's really good. :) I don't necessarily agree about longer music breaks, though, at least not as long as there's only the single DF song.. :)

And yeah, Ampersand was a little hard to hear at times, otherwise everything was very impressive and entertaining. Great job guys. :)

mallocks has heroically produced a transcript of the full second DF Talk.

Awesome job, mallocks. :)

EDIT: I just remembered: the random animal sounds scared the crap out of me. :P
