Star Dwarfs on an asteroid would be awesome.  Rather more than a mod could handle, since you'd need vacuum distinction and a method of custom site-gen.

Reminds me of a short story I read once where hyperdrive was incredibly easy to develop, so you basically had the Roman Empire & similar tech level people wandering space. Then they landed on Earth where we were too stupid to get the hyperdrive but got tanks and shit instead.  Would make a plausible background for Star Dwarfs, though...

No need to add more container types. Although I'd love a Shelf (for stacking barrels et. al.)  simply for aesthetic purposes.

I really love some of these ideas. Particularly underground nests, fossil zombies, and endolithic monsters.  They would balance out how easy it is to get Miners to legendary status and insure that you can't get away with a wall and some Marksdorfs for military. :)

It also opens up avenues for new pets.  Imagine encountering a nest of Rock Hounds.  Slay the adults and you can adopt/train the puppies. These could have special properties like eating rocks you don't want. Or maybe Iron Hounds, immune to magma.

You could also have hidden nests for menacing water critters located under rivers. Be careful where you dig, you'll awaken the !Omega Carp! or perhaps the !Mutant Lungfish!

For curves: Create a square contrusction, then delete all the constructions you don't want. The downside is that you need a lot of the material.

Toady has talked about a heat-workshop or somesuch.

Turn off job failure notifications. It's inconvenient, but the game is unplayable with no-water spam.

Site finder is only sort of a cheat.  I mean we want fortresses with features, that improves gameplay.  2D dorfort always had features. And of course the degree to which its cheating can be determined by the player through the init options.

My current favorite is a Dark Gnome Bone Door.  Dwarves do not take kindly to short evil competitors, no sir.

I'm kinda worried about using it as a main gate though.  What if it gets buildingsmashed... *cries*

2 Mace Lords and a Dragon is pretty heavy for the first siege. I usually get several ambushes and small sieges in the first few years. It can be pretty bloody trying to supress the annoyances without losing too many dwarves.

I guess the question, how can you possibly be so far behind on your hauling that you have hundreds of logs and nothing in your stockpile?   :P
