I've surveyed the area. It's ugly. Very ugly. Apparently there's supposed to be a beautiful artificial waterfall cascading outside the fort. What we have instead is a muddy side of the mountain. I'm going to ask the architects and mechanics about scrapping the projects and putting a proper indoor waterfall, where a beard can actually enjoy it.
There is a switch in the dining room that switches between flooding outside and having the indoor waterfall flow. Or maybe 2, they are all labelled with the note system

I counted, there were 44 humans in the siege.  :-\
I just waited the siege out, in reality, not much I could do. A bigger military would be advised.
Though, that pressure plate would end up keeping us from putting shiney things in yor tomb, too. Probably good you didn't get around to it.
Oh, I did get round to it, but at the moment, it only releases the water from the 1 z-level tall tower on the plain. I was originally going to make my tomb somewhere hard to find, so that no-one would notice it, until they were dragging my corpse down there  :P

Oh, and I labelled all the levers in the dining room using the notes system for future people.

Just a couple of notes on what I did. Since the fortress was pretty much running itself, I had my own projects. The waterfall works, but floods every now and then, so someone else might be able to fix it. The flooding of the plains and the massive failure that was my dam were doomed from the start. In the end I ran out of time, but it was intended to be a very tall tower filled with water, with one floodgate at the bottom that would flood the entire map when opened. The plan to open that was a pressure plate, triggered by even our own dwarfes, at the entrance to my tomb, as a little suprise for letting me die. (I named the first baby of the fortress after me, want to see where he goes in life  :P ) Someone may wish to finish what I started, ignore it, or most likely deconstruct all the walls. It is really badly done, so feel free to improve it.  ;)

Thanks for the game guys  :)

Hm... Maybe installing a floodgate to stop the waterfall for FPS gain would make a good side project. :P

Anyhow, you might want to prepare for war with the humans some more. After all, we were edged out to be a military fortress. Aside from that, crank up wealth, get nobles, and let the Fun(tm) begin!
Forgot to mention I put in a lever that stops the waterfall for massive FPS increase. (Actually only around 5). I won't be able to finish this tonight (Australian timezone, currently 5 pm), but should finish it tomorrow.

Only done spring so far, but have already run out of things to do, now that I have completed my waterfall. I have people smelting around the clock, but my forges, carpentry and mason workshops are all unused for the most parts. Any ideas? Should I be making lots of stuff? Also, food production seems to be taking care of itself, I haven't touched it, but I still have plenty of food.

Oh and I am running at about 40 FPS  :(  (Before waterfall was going, could be even lower now...)
Edit: Was running at around 25-30 FPS with waterfall, had to turn temperature off, am sitting on around 50  at the moment

Are you using your old data/init/interface.txt?  There were new keys added for this version.
Ahh yes...
I just copied old init folder in order to set up graphics set. Thanks :)

In 39d, when I go to 'create new world' and then hit space or enter to stop it, it lets me look around and allows me to continue or stop the gen. Unfortunately, all these use the same key combination, Ctrl+F10, pressing space again does not work. When you hit Ctrl F10, it continues, making it impossible to stop world gen, as escape does not work either :(

Edit: In fact, it is all the new functions Toady has added, select location, notebook thing, they all use Ctrl F10

The axe makes quick work of the skelks, and then the dwarf turns to Snoopicus. "That is my crumpe-" he says, before exploding into gore, which is covered in grime. Snoopicus shrugs and goes to take a bite when...

First, in the controls export to text field, both the primary and secondary selectors are listed as secondary.

I can't figure out what "in the controls export to text field" means.  What does this mean?

I think he means when you are exporting key bindings from the menu.

Good start, but is it possible for screenshots? Or are you intending on doing that at the end of your turn...
Either way, good stuff so far  :)

OH! and are gearing our selves toward killing?
I think that would be for the best...

I haven't actually started yet, so they aren't set in stone, with the hunter, I plan on turning hunting of straight away, and digging into obsidian then making a few swords for him to use, THEN let him hunt. The actual drinks in the items can change but the number will stay the same, if you have any suggestions to change it then just post them!
Looks great, do you intend to start the fortress now?

DF Bug Reports / Re: [39b] Migrants

Ok thanks, I upgraded, haven't played yet, but I'm guessing it is something to do with all the dead goblins outside the fortress, and dead dwarves inside.  :(

Count me in if that's cool. I haven't done a succession game before, so am interested in giving it a shot.  :)

For the poll:

DF Bug Reports / [39b] Migrants
« on: July 18, 2008, 12:32:59 am »
I loaded a world from 38c, with 24 people in it after first migrant wave. Since then, however, I haven't had a migrant wave. It has been a long time (over 2 years at least at a guess), so I am wondering if this is affecting anybody else? (I don't know if they are not coming at all, or if it just takes longer, but I'm sure it is different from past versions).

At the moment i have around 300,000 fortress wealth, and goblin ambushes are slowly but surely killing my dwarves off  :(

I will download 39c later today, but looking at the fixes, nothing seems to relate to this problem.
