General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O
« on: April 02, 2024, 09:29:05 pm »
Just because you have to cover for someone, doesn't mean you have to cover for them well. No reason to do somebody else's job well.

Hopefully you can move on to something better eventually.

At least you made me feel better about my job.  :D
It's hell, but at least we can bring in new people.  We kinda have to with the high turnover.

Right on time!  :P

Unfortunately, I live in New York, where Voting Fraud was invented, so I can hardly advise on making voting less fraudulent.
But maybe other states have less issues with voter fraud.

And no, I ain't making it up. Every 4 years, there is a news article about the machines in New York "not working right".

Damn, that is some mighty bad indigestion.  I sympathize.

I'm actually gravely concerned that mail-in voting could be used to increase voter fraud.

I mean, if I can see how easily it could be abused, I'm sure shitbag politicians can abuse it.

Now, I'm a bit pissed at the Republican for alleging voting fraud without any facts to support it,
and I'm mighty pissed at the Democrats for alleging no voter fraud exists without any facts to support it.

Is it any wonder that nobody cares, if nobody is willing to treat the voters as adults, entitled to actual facts to support such fundamental arguments?

It's more effective to hit your enemy where they do not have defences. The Russian AA defences are limited, but powerful and mobile. Once the Russians moved to protect the Oil, it probably was more effective to stop.

I have no doubt Ukraine will find some new inventive way to use their drones.  There are also supply issues, unfortunately.

Well, to answer your actual question, I guess the most important place to start is: how do you define "democracy"?
I generally look towards democratic institutions, like an independent judiciary, check & balances, peaceful transitions of power,, and other things. What are your thoughts? My headaches are coming back, help a brother out here?

Just a minor point: the United States has never been a democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic with the specific intent that mob-rule not be allowed.
Yes, and how does one counter "mob-rule"?

Congrats! Enjoy the 15 year anniversary.

I predict this year's theme to be bunnies, since it is Easter.

Once again, Haspen has given me inspiration in a Paradox game!

Point taken.
While I do think populists are a concern driving us towards Authoritarianism, they are a different ideology/movement/philosophy.

Update!
here's some of the many changes:
increased the planet count to 100 (from 70)
made the camera much faster, to accomidate the new map
balanced tech hereteks out to not start the horus heresy so fast
new ui for various menus
buildable building ui (from dawn of war)
redone ui of weapon stats
new cheats
improved force weapons

garrisons can now improve the desposition of a planet, based on the highest leader's charisma

black templars and minotaurs having unique artifacts and more fleshed out in general
Fixes camera move speed, and also made it so pressing shift increases move speed as well.

On the above discord link. I would suggest getting it there, so you get the most up to date bugfix version. They released one already.

Fourth vote to Imp!

So, while there has been good commentary of late that raises some good concerns about America backsliding from democratic institutions, I am lacking for advice on increasing democratic institutions.

Unfortunately, most of the scholarly work seems to focus on tiny countriescomparable to the US, which is most of them, rather than larger countries (Mexico?).

So I've created this discussion thread based upon the Athenian Revolution.

If the Authoritarians are going to organize to destroy Democracy, people have to start organizing to empower and protect Democracy.
