heh, whilst we want difficult, the problem with such specifics as those is that it leaves little opportunity for differences in fortress design, theres only a few way you can get water into magma, etc.

What would be good is a difficult map were there is still enough variance that each player can develop an individual fortress that can be completely different to a fortress by another player on the same map. The point of this game is two fold: at its basic its to survive in a hard world, but second fold its to compare the many different fortress designs employed by many different players.

the question is, are you in? ;)

im pretty fine with no magma, but we'll see how the other players interested in joining react. for the moment we should just let people sign up, once we've got 6-7 players we can decide on an area and name.

Right Heres my idea for a game.

We all start of with the same dwarves and the exact same area, We all start at near enough the same time and then we can post updates every so often and compare how each players fortress is going, and at the end we can vote between us on what we consider "the best fortress" out of those that survived.

If you want in then sign up here, once I've got enough sign ups, we can vote between us on what type of area we want to settle in, and the types of dwarves we want. Once thats agreed I'll go out of my way to find an area suitable, embark and save, and then upload the save for us to all play.

Any questions, if not then why ain't you signing up already!

you're only chance is going to be pumps made from steel and bauxite mechanisms, to pump away, then you build a wall, then pump away a different place, it'll be slow work, but possible

I turn any useless dorf into a cook, ive got 4 near legendary cooks, and 3-4 adept cooks, pumping out lavish meals, same goes for brewers.

My farmers are working 3 5x5 parts and trying to keep up with the demand for food to be prepared, I have to suppliment it with fish, but it pays off, I can export alot of the food.

No it isnt, steel is though.

According to the wiki, iron is a magma-safe material.

im of the impression that that only relates to constructed buildings, not to items left around the house. though I could be wrong

nothing more fun than releasing the drowning room on them,

I beg to differ.

Magma room are where its at.

my drowning room drains into an ocean, as it does so clothes get washed away whilst iron items get left behind ready to be melted.

Magma would just obliterate all the loot!

nothing more fun than releasing the drowning room on them, or the dog pod cages.

This is my new fortress im working on, basic bunker is up, and the drowning room works. the economy is stable so I thought it was time for some wacky traps.

I was thinking about a wave generator on the paltform near the windfarm, but the wackier the better!

Ironically I do have a legendary dining room, I've not had a single tantrum, even during the great "goblins wandered in the front door and ended up in the depot" massacre of 201, they killed an entire elven caravan though and I got to keep the goods. So I think the dwarves were contented.

I Pumped the water out using two spare pumps I had, grabbed the babies, dismantled the pumps and rebuilt the floor.

luckily because I carve fortifications into the one wide entrance, to stop carp getting in I had a ramp that I'd just floored over, so unflooring to spaces for the pumps, and the ramp was a 5minute job.

I wish i'd buried the baby, but as I wanted the dwarves to get it out fast I'd marked it for dumped.

Now It's been buried ala magma.

Well a pumping accident resulted in my well room getting filled with water, and during the confusion someone dropped a baby into a well, now its dead and I'm at a lose at to how to get it out. the well is connected to a lake that  covers half the map(I channeled out an enclave with a 1 square wide entrance) is there any way to fish it out, or am I going to have to attempt to  Pump the water out and bury it?

i do this with every water source and magma source to stop damned nasties getting in.

Dig/channel  a tunnel but stop  2 squares away from the source, dig a ramp down, smooth / then carve fortifications on it, then from the top channel out the last square, then floor over it.

Now nothing nasty can get into you're base, whilst you've still got access to magma/water/
