Posting without reading more than the first page. Apologies.

Biggest problem: Shape of the difficulty curve. From hard/easy based on player knowledge, or randomly starting next to a fire imp. What I see in the dev log indicates that this is being addressed with better sieges and HFS for military, but what about non-violent challenge?

Other thoughts:

Graphics/Init/Mods: in game options screen to configure/select.

v/k/q/t: merge these query modes. Have one key to enter query mode, and then allow to change which query you are using (buildings, jobs, dwaves, etc), or just report for whatever is under the cursor, and allow tabbing between the different available options (ie: building contents, jobs).

Filters/autocomplete: rather than navigate through a large tree of options, use the same interface as the job manager (j-m-q). This assumes you know the name of what you want, so probably best to make it optional (as in the trading screen).

I think one of the new HFS is going to be a lack-of-updates-beast. All of the combat text will be behind little spoiler tags.

My understanding is that since he can't stop using his lung, he can't rest it to heal. I belive if you turn of their breathing requirement in the raws, it can be healed normally.

2.33 core 2 duo, 3gb ram. Macbook pro.

30-50fps at 130 dwarfs in a 5x5 dwarf heaven.

This whole new need to explore, even in fort mode (awesome) makes me wonder, will we be able to directly order dwarves to go to a place or stay out of a place? Beyond burrows you'd need some way to order exploration.

also worth noting the guy who bridged elves over, should you ever need it (although you'd have to abandon, which isnt so useful)

Ug. mushrooms are not my kind of food, so I try not to imagine what they taste like.

Probably cave scrapings.

Although purple is a strong contender. Maybe they just sprinkle purple on the ground, the mushrooms grow naturally, so its really just symbiotic flavour seeds.

The backwards targets is confirmed on my fortress (modded with orcs, melting rocks, and a bunch of custom stuff, so I doubt we've got the same changes)

Question: Will instruments have a different material bonus progression, like weapons, but with brass or silver on top?

Good to know about that one..

I always forbid stuff I dont want used. If you still have that save, could you see if forbidding the locked-away material made a difference?
