jopax: the colours are good but the landscape is too flat. adding more layers towards the horizon with intresting siluettes nad maybe a foreground would help

Stick I think the flatness of the landscape might have been a core point of the piece Jopax made, it seems to be trying to portray a barren, desolate wasteland with a single person standing on the edge of a canyon.
I think he means flatness in terms of lacking depth, not flatness of the landscape.

One of the models that I've seen most consistently praised is the Sony MDR-V6, for longevity if nothing else. Actually, the only consistent complaint I've seen about them was the bit about the earpads flaking apart after a decade or so, and those can be replaced for something like $6.00.
My beef with them is the highs are usually too harsh for me, especially for female vocals and electric guitars. I'm even usually the type to EQ the treble up, but when I had V6s, I had to turn them down a bit. I didn't listen to Nightwish through them, but I imagine I wouldn't enjoy the vocals too much with the V6.

Koss PortaPros and Sennheiser PX 100 are great for the $30-50 bracket. The problem with the PortaPros is that they look sort of funky, and they aren't terribly comfortable. The biggest problem is that your hair gets caught in the headband. PX-100s don't shine as well for me when it comes to female vocals, since they sound much darker, but they're  much more comfortable and more portable than the PortaPros.

Hello Anime thread, do you do recommendations?
So far I have really enjoyed Bakemonogatari, xxxHolic was good, and Death Note was alright. Most other things I have seen are some what unimpressive all around.
Can you impress me?
If you really enjoyed Bakemonogatari, there's also Nisemonogatari. The mentioned Kataqnagatari is also made by the same author, and is better than Bakemonogatari in my opinion.

Mononoke is super recommended if you liked the monster aspect of Bakemonogatari, since the Medicine Seller of Mononoke operates in a similar way to Meme in regards to finding out the nature of whatever supernatural BS is happening.

If you liked the banter, Tatami Galaxy completely beats out Bakemonogatari in my opinion, but that may be because I don't get half the jokes/puns in Bakemonogatari. More uniquely, the banter in Tatami Galaxy is usually in the protagonist's head, with himself, and he's much more deadpan compared to Araragi and his harem.

One of the main reasons Western cartoons have little to no character progression is because the broadcasters want to be able to show them in any order. It's the same with a lot of sitcoms. Programs like King of the Hill managed to smuggle small changes in anyway but still.

When I think of Western cartoons all the fantastic films comes to mind. I personally think they hold up well against anime films on the whole.
Do you have any examples of Western cartoon movies you enjoyed, barring Disney produced films? It's a bit off topic, but I'd like to be exposed to more.

Do you have any examples of music you really enjoy, or just the kind of sound you're looking for?

For example we were never taught where does Pythagorean theorem come from or how it actually works. We were just taught the equation. If you just look the Wikipedia page; the first picture on the right and the text under it, the whole thing makes a whole lot more sense. Why it wasn't taught that way in the first place is just pure fucking stupidity.
Where I'm from, the teachers have always explained the Pythagorean Theorem in terms of area, with that top picture. I didn't understand it until college though.

There's a ton of graphical proofs of the Pythagorean Theorem, but only a handful are obvious to me.

http://www.cut-the-knot.org/pythagoras/index.shtml

I best understood it with Proof #9, while a friend had an easier time with #2. It would be nice if it was so, but it's just difficult to teach a concept to a group of 20 people in a way that everyone would understand, in the time limit given. Most teachers and professors are willing to explain it to you in a 1-on-1 environment though. Try spending some time with professors during their office hours, most of the ones I've had were thrilled to explain where some idea comes from, or why you do a certain step. Heck, some professors actually do show where equations come from and how it's derived during class, but there's just not enough time in class for me to make sense of it, so I have to meet them again later anyway.

Plus, for some classes, all you really need are the basics. For example, in basic physics, (1/2)m(v^2)=kinetic energy. If you want to know where it came from you need to understand some basic calculus. I don't think there should be an expectation for everyone to take calculus, not because it isn't useful for everyone, but the amount of usefulness is pretty varying depending on what you want to do. In cases where it's not too useful, I think memorizable formulas are fine. It just isn't feasible to cover all the material otherwise. The further you go into a field, the more in-depth you'll go into the mathematics that are most relevant to you.

The important thing at lower levels is to introduce the concept, so that later, you can go "Oh, I sort of remember that, I don't know why it works though".

Look up "decoupling subwoofer" on google for some ideas.

A simple way is by putting the woofer on a fat piece of MDF that has foam stuck to the bottom. I've seen some DIY drum risers that were just basically old pallet with tennis balls attached to it also.

I don't know how well any of the methods will work if used on a table.

The bottom ones are just humans without the super tengu hat, but they can be modified.

I take it you don't mind if I use them as "bases" and tweak them as needed then?

Yeah, I don't mind.
