This is the best invention since pre-cut, magma-toasted bread. You bet your beard this is a bookmark for later.

Good luck on your venture!

Oh, and aren't gold nuggets found in rivers basically eroded  pieces of native gold? Go prospectin'!

Toady is struck by inspiration! The Programmer sails off to New York.

Good luck, have fun, see "Gone with the wind" and be surprised it has nothing to do with weather.

It's normally not an issue -death from alcohol poisoning comes much, much sooner, in most creatures- but unknown to most, the drunk-sobriety scale is actually a circle. Drink enough, and you approach sobriety from the other side... which is very bad, because that means you are experiencing the opposite of drunkenness (which is not sobriety, that's merely a thin line in the middle of the true scale) -you are knurd. Luckily, dwarves have a built-in instinctual defense thanks to generations of natural selection: They cope with this mind-ablating state by focusing all their attention on one monumental task. Unfortunately, neural feedback means they now must complete the task to exit their state of knurdness.

Although the bones in my submission to this thread likely have only minimal crafting done to them, I still consider the Sedlec Ossuary perhaps the grandest, and most macabre, piece of bone art.

If you have some spare idle dwarves, designate some dirt roads on the offending growth.

If you have a lot of nooks and crannies, making road designation impractical, then consider: Bushes are simply unpicked foodstock for your plant gatherers. Trees- well, you can't ever have too much wood, can you? All the grass is viable food for your grazing animals (as of now; that will change eventually).

Actually, aquifers existed back then too. UG pools have been replaced, of course, since we've got quite a lot of water down there now.
Chasms, to some extent, continue their existence as the deep pits, connecting two caverns, you sometimes discover on your embark.

What's missing (from previous features underground) is moving liquids.

24
Each to their own.

The removed features will most likely be revisited in eventually; this game is constantly changing. I wouldn't be surprised if the UG looked completely different after Caravan release 2, with its 3d mineral veins.

25
They were taken out so that the new underground caverns could be introduced when they were.
The UG rivers, chams etc. would have had to be rewritten and re-tested in order to coexist with the new caverns, and I suspect Toady was worried that that would have taken too much time.

Matul Remrit just got reviewed on Rock, Paper, Shotgun. The anguished comments of readers who are trying to stop DF from taking over their lives is sweet, sweet prose.

Unless you want your dwarves to keep panicing from the possible carp or crocodiles swimming overhead, it really doesn't matter much, does it? You can consider it transparent even if your dwarves don't.

OP was a joy to read. Therapy for completionists using Dwarf Fortress? The thought had never dawned to me, until now.

I suspect another possible game with the same effect might be the Combat Mission series.

"Fear not, the night creatures will still come for you"....

Only in Dwarf Fortress can you say this without being eye-twitchingly and brain-foamingly insane.

perhaps there might also be a choice of vampire diets, much as werecreatures might be vulnerable to materials other than silver?

"I... must... have... TEA!!!"

Yep, thanks to you I want my dwarves to be Weatherwaxed.
