I looked at it for a while and it reminds me of something. Yes, you're right, a SWASTIKA!!

LOOK! PROOF!

This is indisputable evidence that Toady one is involved in a secret nazi cult hellbent on world domination!
We must act now!

Once I forgot that I didn't actually have any armor and the recruits went off to train with steel axes.

We're still cleaning up the blood.

It's better to build bridges out of floors, as they can't be destroyed all at once.

But then you can't retract them while gobbos are walking across sending them down into fiery hot magma.

What the hell is a gibbon?

I found this excruciatingly hilarious and decided to post.
My fortress has a bridge over a magma pipe for an entrance, just cause I can and recently we ran out of food while moving farms from outdoors to indoors, well, some people wheren't to happy about that and without me noticing, this happened.

Luckily no important dwarves died and i got a good laugh.

Then maybe an oscillator using pressure pads and water? Once the water reaches 7 it will trigger it, smashing the trash and opening a floodgate, draining the pressure pad. You'd need some way to make water run really slowly though.

I find Chasms work quite beautifully at garbage disposal.

26
So I was minding my own business, waiting for my bridge over the chasm to be completed so I could wall up my temporary entrance when suddenly I get this message.

A few levels down in the chasm lives a Gremlin which I planned to catch and tame some day, my question is this: I know that if a creature has killed it cannot be tamed because it's received a name, right? Well, this gremlin hasn't killed anything but it has a name, can I still tame it?

It is a proven fact that vikings never wore helmets with horns on them, so fail.

I find having 3 miners is like wiping your ass with silk.

miner/mason
miner/mechanic
miner/architect
woodchoppah/carpenter

Those four I always bring for normal fortresses, the other three are food professions which I tailor for the area, fisherdwarf and fish cleaner if there's lakes and it's calm or wilderness, otherwise farming. Possibly hunting if it's calm.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Fortress design/layout and barrel problems
« on: September 27, 2008, 11:32:02 am »
Fortress layouts are really simple, just make sure everything is connected to 3-5 tile wide corridors that act like roads and that stockpiles are close to what they're needed for, like wood stockpile close to carpenters workshop.

About the barrels, start somewhere with plenty of wood and get separate people working on chopping wood and making barrels. Also using two workshops speeds it up greatly.
You could also try to not make more food than you need, either by making small farms or by only farming on 2/4 or 3/4 seasons.
