DF Modding / Creating creatures with a reaction?

Would it be possible to have a reaction create a new creature? I'm considering modding in a race of stone people who can't breed, but can replenish their ranks by carving new people from solid rock, and I'm curious as to if this is workable.

I realize this is a major necro, but in theory DF could work pretty reasonably under DOS if you use the HX DOS Extender.

I just had one of my swordsdwarves kill an elephant because my hunter was taking too long. I tried to have my butcher, well, butcher it for obvious reasons, but my butcher is willfully ignoring it for whatever reason. Anyone have any clue how to fix this problem?

Toady seems to have tweaked things so that, while gems are in abundance, iron (or ores at all other than copper ores) is crazy impossible to find. This is making the game absurdly difficult.

GOOD NEWS, everyone! I've found a site with the following features:

     -flat volcano!
     -brook!
     -all 4 civs alive
     -genned in 31.16!
     -savage tropical moist broadleaf forest!
     -optional savage mountains! Lose nothing, gain giant eagles!
     -completely flat map! (even the mountain squares are flat stone)!
     -plenty of hematite!
     -giant cave spider webs!
     -no upright weapons!
     -thick; heavily forested
     -a dwarf civ named "The Incinerated Sack"

Lacks sand and flux. (Unless you swap peat and sand!) Weather is Scorching. Two murky pools empty into the volcano on embark, but after that it should be smooth sailing.

Wait, so if I dick with the entity raws a little I'll be able to give my dwarves goods made from elf leather?

(For purposes of this thread, I am treating "underground soil needs to be muddied" as a feature rather than a bug.  I know there is much controversy about this classification.  However, it has been in place for 6 months now, across every 0.31.* release, and has an immediate and profound impact on just about every fortress.)

Well, if it was a feature, either Footkerchief or Toady would have taken it off the bug tracker by now.  :P

Is there any way to efficiently use magma without either an extremely complex pump system and reservoir or embarking on a volcano? I hit the magma sea for the first time on this fort, and using it for anything is ridiculously inefficient because my dorfs have to travel an absurd distance to get to it.
