DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Dwarven death star.
« on: September 03, 2009, 06:36:48 pm »
I hope you are aiming for more like 100 tiles diameter, to make it more of an actual death star, not just some death ball dwarf sphere... finding a map might me tricky, but is definitely possible. Seeing that a 100 tile diameter sphere only consists of nearly 300k tiles... should not be to difficult. Put mega back into mega project. (:

Is it possible to have an option to not display hidden buildings (e.g. bridges made of hidden materials are also hidden), or to distinguish between hidden and not hidden memory wise to begin with? Because the now no longer hidden scaffolds (to save the deconstruction hassle, as dwarves and U alike loev do stand on bridges being deconstructed...) tend to litter some places. ~_~

There also seems to be a problem displaying roads: only one line is displayed (e.g. 3x1 of a 3x10 road).

Wow!

Colorful~, yay!

Some simple suggestions or things i noticed:

- faces above fortification missing
- bridges, windows (;
- maybe changing the direktion of the lighting?
- trees/boulders on/off did not work
- maybe scaling of the tree sizes?

And the usual examples:

That happens if you combine [DEFAULT_SITE_TYPE:CITY] and [START_BIOME:MOUNTAIN].

Might not be new, but looks nice.

DF General Discussion / Re: A dwarvish sentence generator

The slogan generator got me:

Quote
This Is The Age Of The Dwarf.

Sounds familiar.

But the trivia thing, just with the very first fact, sums the whole lot of DF up even better:

Quote
Ten Top Trivia Tips about Dwarves!

   1. It takes 17 muscles to smile, and 43 to frown at dwarves.

Ah, and the Shakespeare quote i got was:

Out, damned dwarf! Out, I say!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Two mega projects
« on: June 25, 2009, 03:18:43 pm »
Hello. I thought I'd share some of the mega projects I've... seen. As there is a preference for mega constructions, both are made of lots and lots of blocks.

First is an alternative human town design (I'd love to see something like this in an actual human town in the... future maybe). Towns now are more like villages, not only because of the population issue but the chaotic placement of the houses. (;

Second is a stupid dwarf trick as it seems. Dwarves trying to win DF... by blasting a fortress to the moon and beyond. I think I've read that somewhere as some sort of a victory condition, jokingly..., but that might still have inspired some moody dwarf. By design, it might not appeal to everybody's idea of a space ship...

Enjoy.

Did I mention that I love 3Dwarf? Oh, yes... anyway, 3Dwarf picture comments: http://mkv25.net/dfma/map-6201.

If I not already posted this: I really love 3Dwarf. Many thanks to everybody working on it.

For compensation some alternative human city design:

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: [CAN_LEARN] vs pets; also: socializing
« on: June 13, 2009, 04:38:03 pm »
Exploiting fast social skills: 1x1 meeting zone, proximity seems to be important for socializing, and also some sort of possible permutations of chatting dwarves (the more the faster for each one).

PS: Ah, this has to be the ONLY meeting area of sorts, so no statue gardens etc with parties. Otherwise dwarves still disperse to all the different locations.

You left out children... not really a job, but noble and DF player also are not... sadly.

For me it is mason. Or everyone coming to close to a mega project under construction, be it as hauler or deconstructor. Usual reason is some misplaced wall or deconstruction in the wrong order/missed remaining tile, so that these evil dust clouds spread from a little single-tile cave-in or whatever. Nobody gets smashed by falling stone, but those dust clouds... together with working on a narrow scaffold, maybe 20 z-levels above ground, hilarity ensues. Last fort i lost more than 10 dwarves (actually U's) to plummeting, and only one champion, actually to the common drawbridge (another oversight), and maybe one or two more to ranged ambushers.

Hm, on a second thought: child. IIRC my last fort has also lost horrendous amounts of the little buggers to snatchers... and next to that, children love to deconstruct... plummeting to their death included.

DF Bug Reports / [40d] Lye stacks
« on: May 09, 2009, 05:22:05 am »
So i bought lye from the caravan, it comes in stacks of 10, and making potash out of it yields 1 per stack (10)... i know this behavior from "edited" reactions, but here we have a "legal" thing, and I paid for 10 lye. Is it already scheduled for changing, that behavior?

Well, that could cost someone the fun to find this out for himself... what is pretty much one of the important aspects of fun in this game (next to !!dwarves!! in the booze stockpile and so on...). So, read on your own risk:

So, a funny story, even if I prefer the kind where a dragon annihilates entire civilizations and is the brought down by an elven child, with a stick or something. Or where a !!captain of the guard!! goes on an insane and awesome rampage. ;)
