I think magic should be divided somewhat racially, with dwarves having artifacts, elves have druids, humans have wizards, goblins have demonology/necromancy, kobolds have shamanism/voodoo, and everyone can do alchemy/herbalism (as it's just chemistry/pharmacy with magical intents).

What would happen to DF if Toady suddenly died? Would ThreeToe be able to continue developing it? Would it go open-source? Would it just stagnate with all bugs now "features"?

In 40, Datan fought with the elf Iki Earthengrasped. While defeated, the latter escaped unscathed.
In 41, Datan happened upon the elf Thelire Lengthpearl.
In 41, Datan's lower right arm was slashed by the elf Thelire Lengthpearl.
In 41, the elf Thelire Lengthpearl was forced to retreat from Datan despite the latter's wounds.
In 79, Datan ambushed the elf Alisa Mawmother.
In 79, the elf Alisa Mawmother's left ear was torn off by Datan.
In 79, Datan struck down the elf Alisa Mawmother in Constructhoisted.
In 95, Datan surprised the elf Covema Soaredwaters.
In 95, Datan struck down the elf Covema Soaredwaters in Constructhoisted.
They were all babysnatchers.

I've just noticed the interesting fact that the queen consort, Datan Inodostath, has Guard listed as her profession, which comes from world gen. She also defeated a cyclops when she was 12 (he escaped unscathed).

There should be a viewing mode that compresses all outdoor parts of the map into one slice, so one can more easily follow dwarves and other creatures moving around slopes without having to constantly change which level you're viewing.
