Project scour-the-earth lead to 2 FPS on my mightiest computer for some reason. After undesignating, things seem to be running properly again.

Oh, and the King arrived.
I'm building a throne room for him, and I've moved him into the Royal Quarters we had available.
Anything else I should know for Kings?

P.S. the Queen has two elf kills. The king has several skills, notably, he's a Milker.

There is already an artifact throne in his bedroom, as well as a table and coffin.

Island: Build a tower at the base of a cliff as tall as the cliff. The only way into the fortress is to cross a bridge to the tower and climb all the way down into the ground.
Bonus points for: tower is caravan accessible; alternate entrance lined with traps; tower surrounded by lake of water/magma.

Hokay people, listen up.
As a semi-observant follower of this thread I'm seeing a disturbing trend. I see people eagerly signing up, only to disappear after a mere few months wait. Fye on it! These kids have no STAMINA.
And further, you get your hands on the save and go off to a glorious start, only to lose interest once the difficulties start setting in.
"Oh damn I lost half the military to an unlucky ambush and the other half is throwing tantrums."
"Oh boogers, I just flooded the fort. With magma."
"Ohshi- pits!"
or more likely "Oh bloody hell, this place is an incomprehensible mess! I can't even find the food stockpile nevermind the bridge lever."
Shame I say. These things, heavy loads an overseer must bear, they wear you down, do they? A pox on you! These are the things that should INVIGORATE! To work, to strive, to excel! That is the dwarven way. The harder the challenge, the sweeter the reward.
Oh, running a mountainhome isn't such a breeze? Well tough shit. What do think this is? A holiday camp?
THIS IS BLOODY ETERNAL HALLS.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Be fair, abbeyverse landed on me.
Hard.

Could've at least uploaded the save so all your work wasn't for naught.

an baby thats not carried by the mother will jump off a cliff or into a river because it thinks the mother is dead and is trying to commit suicide.
Really?

On a semi-related note, I had a miner die in a magma moat because he somehow fell in while channelling out the stairs that were used to get into the moat in the first place. The fall broke his ankle and he couldn't get away in time for me to build a way out.

Does this mean I'M NEXT?!?!?!?
After the current one, yes.

Month of Obsidian.
Nice month, Obsidian. I think I'll take a break from running the fort for a few years, let someone else handle it. Tomb's pretty much done. A blacksmith was taken by a mood, so something good may come of it.

Month of Opal
We're running low on wood. Scratch that. We have no wood. The food's piling up too. The two stockpiles I made for food are already halfway full of plump helmets, and we don't have any barrels. This also means no more making obsidian swords for a while, so I don't have a job. I think I'll get started on another tomb, as my first one is already filled.

1478
Month of Moonstone
A baby died of thirst. I don't quite know what happened, but it might have been due to the small waterfall flood we had recently. The mother's been in bed for Keshan* knows how long with a bad case of no-leg syndrome.
It's complete. The MALL's most distinctive feature, its silver fountain, is finally complete. It consists of a "pump stairway" bringing water up from the bottom, where it is then pumped up to the top level of the MALL. It then falls down a copper drain back down to the bottom. In case of a flood, a pressure plate disables the last pump, shutting it off.

*Keshan is the deity Sizik worships

I once had a dwarf run infront of a ballista in a tower the exact second it fired, he got skewered kebab style.  ;D
I once "stationed" (repeated lever pulling) a noble in front of a ballista (with a fortification again) and fired. He escaped with only a hand injury.

I nominate The Eternal Halls, seeing as it's the third longest thread in this forum behind Migrursut and Nist Akath.

Month of Sandstone
The MALL is nearly done. The rooms have been dug out, and the shops are set up for construction. A

quite lengthy vein of garnierite was discovered, providing any nickel the duchess might request.
The leaving merchants found a kobold thief, whom the caravan guards chased away.

Month of Timber
An engraver, Udil Zuntîrnikot ("Anvilactions"), has been possessed. He created Tislamnitig Gebberim, "Dessertbite the Dented Artifice". a Felsite earring.

This is a Felsite earring. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. It is encrusted with Felsite, decorated with clear glass and encircled with bands of Felsite, turtle bone and green glass. This object is adorned with hanging rings of willow and menaces with spikes of Iron. On the item is an image of The Thunder of Crews the Felsite amulet in Felsite. On the item is an image of Kûbuk Pagedinks the dwarf in Pig tail. On the item is an image of Maples in Iron.
Weight: 2Γ  Basic Value: 42000☼

A miner, Oddom Orrunlogem, died of thirst in jail. He had been charged with violation of a production order, and has been in jail for possibly over two months.
The MALL is complete. All that's left is to finish it's features.

1482
Month of Limestone
The construction of the MALL is underway. It will be a two level complex containing sixteen brass shops. The top floor, which is a level below where the current shops are, will have ten shops on either side of a balcony, overlooking the six shops below. There are also plans in place for some certain features that are sure to be showered with praise.
Merchants from the mountainhomes arrived. I offered them most of our masterwork obsidian swords.

The Real Month of Galena
A snakeman somehow made it into our main stockpile. He was quickly dispatched by one of the guards.
The rain collection system for the obsidian maker is complete, as well our 16 new magma forges and smelters (8 each).
An alchemist's laboratory, a dyer's shop, a tanner's shop, and a millstone have been constructed.  Another general stockpile is being dug, and there are plans for a "Massive Architectural Lending Ledge" or MALL.
