DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Bin troubles
« on: August 31, 2008, 01:25:46 am »
Just a question, why do you want to make coins? The only really worthy purpose coins have is as a storage for history in there engravings, or as a thing to come for in adventure mode a fling at your enemies. Other than that there is no reason to mint coins as they always seem to create endless amounts of hauling tasks, slowing down your fortress, and dwarves will operate perfectly fine on a purely credit based society.

see first entry. "(a decision i now regret)" i didn't know it was so pointless and annoying

I started making coins, (a decision i now regret) and i wanted to stash them in a vault, but i can't seem to have them put in bins. I'm fairly sure i have some spare bins lying around and i know that it's set to use the bins. Anyone know whats going on?

Edit: nm, they finally got to using them. Does anyone else have a few empty barrels/bins that never seem to get used. Theres an alder barrel thats been sitting in my still for years.

Hmm, i wonder if i could make a Chess board, and instead of putting pieces on it, i would just station various members of my army there, with custom profession names of course. Of course in real chess you never have the problem of having you king get up and leave because he's hungry.

So whats with the bowmen i've been fighting that just say bowman, but flash like the're legendary in something, is that just some legendary crafts elf who decided he would join the archers in the military, or much more unlikely someone who has legendary armor user. Did i kill them with their own bow for nothing more than delicious irony.

80
So will an elite bowman actually say elite bowman or will it only have the legendary flash that everyone has?

I think killing all the elves in the world would already get you an absurdly high score. There's not really any need to reward that.

If i remember right your stats max out at Ultra-Mighty, Perfectly Agile, and Superdwarvenly tough. Anyone want to confirm that.

You know what i noticed. Killing elves makes it really easy to train in bows. after a single attack i have Talented in Bowdwarf. I am going to going to be able to get that bonus point for killing an elite bowman pretty easy at this rate. Speaking of which, wreastling would be very usefull for that bonus. Break right arm, take bow and arrows, kill.

Keep tempature off until it's finished, turn the tempature back on, wait until it thaws, and then turn it back off again.

Bonus points if it's self sufficient and sealed from the outside world. More bonus points if you wind up with a bunch of bezerk dwarves hopped up on chemicals armok-was-not-meant-to-know that mutate them into superfreaks.

If by superfreaks you mean into merdwarfs, then yes, definatly. It would be an ugly, stinky Atlantis.

It's quite irritating. I know what Toady was going for but damn, a lone woodcutter toiling in the forest shouldn't turn the place into a desert

You should set up highways for the woodcutters to travel using the traffic zones designation. If you do that you could make sure that the saplings don't die. Also, don't spiral out from you base designating trees, make sure that you go one direction at a time. Plus, you have one guy cutting down trees but several more hauling the logs i would assume.

Also note that, as a flux stone, Limestone is worth twice regular stone. A material value of 2 instead of 1 may not seem like much, but it means that anything made from limestone is worth twice the value. I love stone crafts, but that may just be because i got a legendary stone crafter off a strange mood.

Man i love this little game. My First successfull Elf murderer was Dastot Lirrulush.

He left with a grand total of 17 points. 10 of those points are from beating two children to death with their own limbs. This game is cruel, but i hate elves enough to make it fun.

89
Has anyone but me thought of starting the I hate elves thread. This one is pretty close.

Anyhow i'm going to take my flail wielding human into the nearest elven town and start some havok, with me luck.

Edit: holy shit that archer was good. I think my next elf killing machine will have to be a little more prepared. I think i'll make an elf wielding an Axe

Edit: Man elves are even terrible for killing elves, time to go dwarven on their asses

Ahh, noble killing, the cornerstone of any good dwarven civilization.
