DF Suggestions / points! Yes, points!

I have a, point to make:
adventure mode should have a score! killing bronze colossi should give the player points!
people should be able to compare scores between adventurers in their game, and even other player's games.
I know deep inside dwarf fortress somewhere, achievements are saved, but it is important to show the player the fruits of their labor, in number form.

DF Suggestions / dwarfs carrying regular artifacts

With the villain plots, they can send agents to steal artifacts.
but what if the player could do the opposite, and say 'this artifact will be carried by a designated dwarf in the fortress'
So if they want the artifact, they have to find the dwarf carrying it!

Also dwarves should have the ability to show off their bling, as a thing which is more common than more than one dwarf every hundred years in a 200 pop fortress. especially if that fortress makes piles of crafts.

DF General Discussion / new training weapons and toys.

Simple really, new wooden training weapons base on the weapon types the dwarves can create.

There aren't training hammers or training maces! cudgels too are never found.


There could also be toy bows and arrows for the children. Mini bows, I guess.
Toy wooden darts that won't really do any damage. they would end up strewn around the fortress and in doorways.

Obviously, there wouldn't be training versions of too large human weapons, because no dwarf can make them.

DF Suggestions / marksdwarves and fortifications

Making a marksdwarf stand by a fortification is incredibly annoying. you'd think they would just stand near it and shoot like a true pro. but no.

The only way to make a marksdwarf stand next to a fortification:
A station command, with a one tile wide walkway, with no possible way to access a path to the outside near it, and be like ten tiles long so the dwarves don't spill out to the nearby area.

Just make a 'man fortification' option, please.

Patrols do not solve this issue, because patrols won't fire their whole quiver, they just hit an enemy, take a potshot, and run away.

DF Suggestions / Titles, and greetings based on titles.

In fable 1 and 2, the hero can accumulate various titles, like ranger, liberator, assassin, piemaster.
I want people to know I beat that hill titan out back! And that I eat pies.

My suggestion is that more of the people you meet in a location should use your title.

Of course, this is also the opportunity to go into detail about titles. aka you can talk to the guy who will make you famous in order to spread your title.
(And pay money)

How he convinces a whole village to always use a specific title, the world may never know.

Imagine sharing an adventure mode save, and hearing stories about how a previous adventurer slew a bronze colossus.

DF Suggestions / Better traps, possibly animated?

It would be really cool if weapon traps were detailed more. Like what if spinning serrated discs were actually drawn?
I feel like this is something the game has been building up to for a while.

Let's make a weapon trap take three tiles.
The discs would pop out of the floor (wall?)

This also opens up the ability to show a jammed trap with gore in it.

A spinning axe trap would look like

To place the weapon traps, click and drag the center of the trap, to the trap's trigger spot.

So, it could be fun to do many things with the music in the game.
There is some demand to have control over the music.

-some people want to swap event-specific songs with other songs,
-or stop specific tracks from playing,


My suggestion is to take a look at the runescape jukebox. it's not the most highly featured juke box, but it gets the job done.
1. tracks are unlocked by being in the area where they play.
2. you can automatically play the area's track or play one of the unlocked tracks.
3. you can set it to loop, or not to loop.
4. you can change the volume, including a mute button. pressing the mute button returns the original volume level when unmuting.

Okay well that doesn't solve either of those two problems specifically, but let's continue.
The ability to sub-in songs for the pre-packaged songs. basically just drop in appropriately named music files to over-ride the prepackaged music.

People also want the ability to stop certain tracks from playing.
So, since we don't want to show all the tracks at any given time, i would assume people want an opt-out list.
So the player would decide to stop the track playing in a menu, and say 'this track should never play automatically'


there are a dozen other features, but some form of these two seem most important.

DF Gameplay Questions / Checking Temperature ingame

Is there any way to check the temperature of a tile in-game?

I prefer to operate without DF Hack if possible.
The goal is to use nether wood to keep booze chilled, without making dwarves freezing cold.

DF Suggestions / butchery in the upcoming version!

this might be worked on, the butcher shop menu has 'butcher an animal'.
 people regularly forget that you need to assign an animal to be butchered in a different menu.

moreover, on the default settings, this happens automatically.

I'm not sure what to do about it, but i guess the (animals) menu should be accessible/show in the butcher's shop

DF Suggestions / Arenas

A new area type, for fortress mode. Arenas!

Build a large elaborate arena, to attract foreign gladiators to fight in the pits!
(foreigner visitors should come to fight in the pits)

So that players can follow the combat, custom recorded logs for things that fight while inside the arena area.
(it's easy to bury the combat logs, these would be taken as a separate notes)

to feed the arena, there could be moving floor tiles that move the gladiators from the back room to the surface of the arena
(moving fortress parts, walls/floors that raise up a level, including any beast or dwarf standing on them)

stands for the crowds, and some way to keep beasts out of the stands, like see-through glass.
(see-through glass, so dwarves can get thoughts)

It would be really cool if, similar to a game of civilization or master of magic, there was a mode that could show the movement of important characters and wars across the world map. Basically a cinematic world gen mode. we have kaiiju, right? well we need to put them to work.

Look, kaiju deserve jobs just as much as anybody.

Alright, well, it's been some time since I last posted about my stuff.
After a long hiatus, I went back and cleaned up my lunar lander game to make it slightly better for early access.
If I wait until I am done fixing and improving the game, I'll never release it! Wow!
And feedback is really important, I don't have money to pay a team of testers.
And that is where you guys come in!

Have you ever felt dismayed at how games like Runescape have players with years of grinding, questing, and achievement hunting?
Like, it's all been done before and you would just be playing catch up?
On September 26 2022, Jagex will open a new server/type/mode, called Fresh Start.
Fresh start will require a new account for those four months, that has never even seen tutorial mode of Runescape main.
Everyone playing that mode will have to start with a fresh account.


you need: a fresh email address for a new account
membership (either paid, or through a bond. There will be a way to use a bond from another account)

DF Suggestions / mining patterns

Some time ago, Toady upgraded the patterns dwarves mine in.(the pattern was mind-numbing in older versions) I want to suggest that (especially for modifications!) other races have different mining patterns, like digging in a straight line when possible, or randomly hopping to available tiles not too far away.
or mining based on the distance from one starting tile.

it would be a great way to add character to races that mine!

DF Suggestions / With regards to the balance of farming

In the past, I know making farming more difficult was considered.
it was tried at least once by the toady one.

The conclusion df players came to, was that farming requiring more dwarves just meant using more farmers.

it pulled dwarves away from more interesting tasks, as well as more important tasks

it's not really a challenge to make more dwarves into farmers.
it's also not really that meaningful to the player.

aka instead of being some sort of difficult challenge, people just needed more dwarves to do the same amount of productivity.
dwarves are cheap!
raising the amount of dwarf power required for farming isn't mechanically interesting.

The net effect is having less dwarves to do things people actually find interesting.
