fortifications man, thats all you need
(you don't need to smooth or engrave walls, rough or smooth)

check to make sure they don't have a bowlord or something- they're accurate enough to snipe through fortifications like pie.

mark the items for dumping, then reclaim them afterward

make sure your stockpiles are properly set first

lock the crazy dwarf in a room

magma men can swim through fortifactions(he almost cost me an anvil!)

lava and water can seep through fortifications

i'm not sure if animals can swim through grates or bars but one of them can stop fish

1. when i started my game as an adventurer some trader apparently had illusions about having a hand:

Trader looses hold of the rope reed right mitten
trader looses hold of the rope reed right glove

creatures with missing limbs shouldn't spawn wearing something they can't hold
2. marksdwarves only stuff 1 type of bolt in their quiver at a time. currently i've got a markdwarf carrying around 1 bolt in his quiver because no others will stack with it, and he won't even use it at the archery range or drop it unless i discharge him from the military
it works out fine if i only make copper bolts, but bone makes them freak out because only 1 level of quality and 1 type of bone fit in the quiver

3. the paypal banner seems to cause me horrible lag whenever it starts loading, i'm not sure why, it was working before.

4. poor timing with the shift and numpad keys can cause the game to perpetually move the cursor(also makes it hard to save) while no keys are pressed
reloading cures it

i'd prefer if they at least stuffed more than 4 bolts in thier quiver, because they won't put in more than one type
the only diffrence between crossbows and guns in the middle ages was that crossbows were both more powerful and extremely accurate/easy to use
guns were not a precision weapon
(pirates used guns at point blank!, though that may be a diffrent time period)

insanity is caused by extreme unhappyness, usually because they were unable to complete an artifact while in a strange mood

beware goblin bowmasters, they're about 10x as deadly as goblin bowmen, and have been known to pick off dwarves through fortifications 3 z levels up in full iron chainmail

fire snake pierce wooden barrel, perhaps combined with a long line of touching wooden walls.
a wooden butcher shop will be set on fire if you butcher a fire imp inside (unsure)

an underground resevoir seperated by a closed floodgate won't freeze
just open/close it after each thaw
