Give it a couple more years, and Sean Connery could probably play Cohen the Barbarian.

But enough off topic nonsense. Back to the beasts.

The porcupine seems to have inspired some of the most nightmarish beasts yet. Very nice.

And to quote a greater man than I, the finest things in life are "hot water, good dentishtry and shoft lavatory paper".

I first started playing fortress mode sometime in 2008. The first big update I remember is the one that allowed you to designate more than one wall at a time, or something like that.

If we're talking about when I first heard about Dwarf Fortress, well, that was in a long dead forum, shortly after the first public release. People were complaining about the GUI, and how it made no sense. I thought to myself "well, that sounds annoying. Not for me." What a fool I was, etc.

Porcupines are bastards. Just complete bastards. I've watched as a vet removed a couple of spines from a dog's snout before, and trust me, it is no picnic. I can't even imagine what removing hundreds of those things would be like.

The cave painting beast is neat, though. A nice new take on the concept.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?

After losing an entire fort to a desert titan, I reclaimed. My new dwarfs got to shelter and then got to work building a magma cannon. Construction was slightly succesful, but the titan always managed to escape the waves of lava we sent after him. At long last, Lusnub Howlpacks the Hairy Raptor-Season of Birds was slain by a crossbow-dwarf that accompanied a caravan. Now, what to do with all this magma?

What I like about this one is how different every entrant's interpretation of Atu's four horns is. There is almost no similarity between each beast. As for my own favorite, well, Sir Broccoli's is looking pretty dang good.

40d wrassledwarfs against one gobin siege? Yeah, that aint much of a contest.

This is one of the game mechanics that the new version will undoubtedly fix, someday.

Sorry. I was talking about Furtuka's. It deserves votes. I am terrible at making myself understood.

Furtuka's is excellent. It deserves my vote. And Aramco's as well, probably.

Desert titan.

It just bit off the hands of half my military, leaving them bleeding out in the sand. While this is frustrating, I am amazed at its aim. Seriously, this thing is dedicated to biting off hands, and only hands.

My most sincere apologies.

To make up for my lapse, I present this:

Ravens, magpies, crows... why not just vote for the whole family Corvidae? They are the best of birds.

You'd think I'd have learned by now that you shouldn't have a dwarf channel out the space directly beneath where he's standing... when the next tile is about 6 z-levels down.

One memorial slab, coming right up.

General Discussion / Re: Your Favorite Music to Play
« on: March 14, 2011, 11:45:14 pm »
I used to play the euphonium, though I wasn't much good at it. Back when I did, I was quite fond of Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring.

Nowadays I'm trying to learn to play the kantele. Trying work out how to play "Froggy Went a' Courtin'" on the thing is fun!

Music is good times.
