General Discussion / Serious discussion: U.S. Military actions
« on: April 05, 2010, 04:30:40 pm »
(I'm too lazy to actually change the link)
See, here.

Ignore the first link, see here instead. There is a short (but heavily edited from 40+ minutes to 17) and a full version of about 39 minutes (but apparently somethings are still edited out).

I wouldn't call myself anti war on most issues concerning the subject. I really just felt like posting this here for well; I'll be honest, shits and giggles.

Of course that still does not change the fact of the whole 'seriousness' of this discussion. If things do get out of hand, I'm closing this topic.

Life Advice / So I've got this project due...
« on: March 20, 2010, 08:12:53 am »
And it's supposed to be about current news topics that are occurring daily within our world. I need about ten of them or more if I feel like it.

Problem is, well I don't have enough topics to write, nor do I feel like searching through the internet to look for something. I do have one topic done so far, so now I need about nine more. Sooo, could I get some help here?

TL;DR I need news worthy stuff to write about halps mi!

18
I won't lie to you guys (to impress you guys, maybe) but, my X is that I honestly recognize most users here because they're chicks. There, I said it. From my perspective, a girl is so rare in some areas of the internet that they become instantly recognizable the second I see their user profile.

That aside, my Y is someones' post count. It's easy to recognize big numbers and associate them people, especially when you can see who has the biggest numbers, but for me it's usually (and I reiterate) posts.

As for my Q, that one is a bit harder to define, but in the end, I go with, um... personalities! Isn't that why we go on the internet, to meet funny and sometimes strange people! =^-^=

Well I'm done, have fun picking.

General Discussion / Attention Span
« on: February 11, 2010, 07:48:29 pm »
Personally this is something that I've worked hard and tireless to improve. My main reason for this is that I'd prefer to actually learn things when I have a daunting task to complete, that and I'd prefer to not be like most people I happen to know.

If I have to, I will try my hardest to focus on anything given to me but I can't say that I will last very long but the harder plus longer (ah fuck, innuendos, sorry) the better the results.

So yeah, it's a work in progress.

edit: I'm also posting for the sake of other projects

Other Games / Need for Madness, NEED FOR MADNESS!, NEED FOR F- MADNESS!!!
« on: January 10, 2010, 06:46:18 pm »
BAM!
BAM!
BAM!

it's a driving game

Official text from the game offers a better description than this but for the record, the game is pretty old so it may run at ridiculous speeds.

NEED FOR MADNESS IS SO AWESOME, I NEED TO TYPE THIS UP IN ALL CAPITALS AND BOLD! IF YOUR PUSINESS IS TOO HIGH TO DEAL WITH THIS THEN CLICK OUT OF THIS WINDOW BEFORE SOMETHING GETS POPPED ON YOUR SIDE!

ANYWAY! THE BEST WAY I CAN DESCRIBE THIS GAME IS IF TWISTED METAL AND BURN OUT HAD A BASTARD CHILD AND THAT CHILD WOUND UP BEING A FUGLY MOTHERF-! YEAH, I SAID IT! THE GAME AIN'T PRETTY, BUT FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH, IT'S F-N FUN!

IT'S ALSO HARDER THAN DUKE NUKEM'S BALLS IF THEY WERE MADE OUT OF DIAMONDS! BUT IF YOU'RE A SOB WHEN IT COMES TO DRIVING GAMES, THAN YOU MIGHT HAVE A CHANCE OF NOT GETTING YOUR ASS SPIT UP AND CHEWED BY THIS GAME!

ALSO THIS GAME IS OLD, SO YOUR COMPUTER SHOULD BE ABLE TO PLAY IT NO PROBLEM; BUT SOMETIMES THIS MAKES THE GAME GO TOO F-N FAST!

Er hm... my almost decade old computer desktop

System:
   Microsoft Windows XP
Version 2002 (There's a little more info than this)

Computer:
   Intel(R)
   Celeron(R) CPU 3.20GHz
   3.20GHz, 504MB of RAM
(W/ nothing else worth mentioning, seriously, if it weren't for the CPU clocking in at 3.20 ghz than I probably wouldn't be here!)

Anyway, I just decided to download the Microsoft Office Home & Business 2010 Beta version because one, I have no monies (I've heard of freeware versions FYI) two I've grown up with this software all of my life! And three, a bunch of my already written documents are encoded as Word only files.

Now that that's over with, I'm worried about one thing; I can't tell if this is a trial version, because I got no warning what so ever when I opened this up. Also I keep getting a funny (not lol what's this haha! More like shit do I need this?) messages saying that some files seem to be missing.

August 6 2010: I have finally revived this topic with an update. It is "Chapter 8: In which we find new members."

I also fixed the links to the various updates of the topic at the bottom and I also decided to add in index section to the OP.

Introduction &^

TL;DR
Somethings up. Your dad was killed. You want revenge. Get it.

WELCOME TO FUCKING DRAGON WARRIOR THREE!

Dragon Warrior/Quest 3 is a game that was first developed for the nes by Enix, which would later become the Square Enix we know today. DW/Q3 is one of those games that basically helped define a genre (the JRPG genre) of games, and possibly set the cultural standards of Japan for a decade or two; it is also mistaken as the game that made it illegal for (in this context Square) Enix to not release DW/Q games on the weekdays in Japan. No, no, that's a myth. Square Enix only does that due to customer complaints.

Since DW/Q3's introduction to the world there have been two different versions of the game released, one for the SNES and then the GBC. The only difference between the two remakes is the SNES's graphical superiority. I probably would play the SNES version but I have two reasons not to. The first is that the SNES version was released only in the Japan; there is a translation patch to translate the game into English but; I don't feel like using it. Now the second reason for my preference to the GBC is that I played that version in my youth and there's a little less of the common JRPG grind.

The features of this game are, the ability to create new characters, a class system and a personality system. Depending on your tastes and hardcore gamerometer, DW/Q3 can have a tremendous amount of replay value. Seeing as how we have the ability to make characters at our whim, I shall and will create characters based on user input, no class discrimination either! I'm not sure what the limit of characters is, though if this topic does get popular enough; we shall see!

For your consideration &%
I may as well start by explaining the stats mechanics to get all of you moving in the right direction in terms of your class utility.

Here is the run down of all of the classes within the game in various orders.

This list goes from highest potential to lowest. For the most part, anything from four to six rank is average, not low.

Requesting new characters &$

These next two sections refer to custom sprites, skip if your PC is the first of its class and gender
Now, because there are only a certain number of original sprites, I will create a custom sprite for a user when both the female and male sprites of a class have been taken. There are only a few rules to asking for a new sprite.
-The sprite must retain the original colors of the requested class. I.E., the warrior contains the colors, white, black and some kinda salmon red; if you requested a male warrior, then the sprite that represents your PC is already used by another user (see user list). Therefore, you must request a custom sprite using only the colors of the original warrior sprite.
-Don't ask for custom pallets. This is the GBC, teeny whenny memory restraints. Alot of the pallets are shared.
-If you and a user request to be in the same update, and your PCs are of the same classes/gender then, I'm going to have to choose only one of you. I'm not sure how affordable it is to actually seperate sprites and PC data just for the sake of using the same class in a few updates.

This part is only for if you're going to create the custom sprite yourself.
-Again, there are only three unchangeable colors available to work with. One is used for transparency and those colors you can use can only be colors from the original palette of the class you have selected.
-Sprites should be 16X16 pixels and have only two animations; there is no idle animation. Most of the original sprite look like they're walking in place for the most part.
-Please try not to have your sprite look like something completely different. I.E., don't have the updates with your character look like some kinda juxtaposition of the original art with something that looks like it belongs in a different game.

This section is on personalities and general uniqueness of PCs
Personalities are for the sake of story telling, mostly cosmetic in this LP. When requesting a personality, I want you to make a list of the three personalities you would like from greatest to less greatest. I will then see if I will be able to give you what you want.

There are forty-four different personalities in this game, five specific to female characters and three specific to males.

If there is anything else you'd like to make up about your character, go ahead. I don't mind. Just try not to write a novel or completely mess up the story I may have going. Though, still try to surprise me and most importantly, have fun!

Spoiler: The List (click to show/hide)

Intellect skill gain

Gaining Skill in this game, comes mainly in the form of constant practice or by doing something completely new.
For the most part doing a combination of actions with your AP (plus free action), such as lets say Alchemy ["I mix the two bubbling potions together, than I put the funnel down the Goblin's mouth and last I wait to see if it's head explodes"] will gain you the most skill points.

As for the gained amount from this action, well I would first check to see your INT let's say (7 Below average) than divide the number of actions (3) by your INT (7) and now let us say that your PC has no skill in Alchemy, so each of these actions is something new (X2.5 base multiplier 1.0, plus .5 for every new action). The skill gain from this is 1.07, BAM! Novice alchemist!

Attack skill gain

As for other skills such as combat skills, well for some, SP is gained automatically(dodging, blocking etc) and the SP gain for each of those is 0.05 for each successful roll or 0.1 for each fail; the number is multiplied by .5 for a succession of rolls.

Erhm, as for other skills which involve the PC hitting a creature, well the skill gain goes like this.

Base skill gain for any hit, 0.05, +0.05 for every hit
Succession of two hits, X1.5 (add 0.5 if more successful hits)
Severs a creatures limb add 0.15 to the skill gain.
Kills in one hit, times total by three.
Kills after more than one but less than three, add 0.10
Any more than that add 0.05

*Depending on the weapon you used, the total skill gain from this one hit is multiplied by 2*

Social skill gains

Social skill gains are pretty much or exactly like intellectual skills, except that a successful pull of one of the actions, leads to a multiplier of 2.00

Distribution of stats

10=Speciality
9-7=Great bonus
6-5=Moderate Bonus
4-3=Small Bonus
2-1=Slight bonus
//=No bonus

AGI-+3=Speciality +2=Great Bonus +1=Moderate Bonus

Alchemist- BANG! POW! Are the noises you'll hear if you're ever in a fight with an experienced Alchemist or if you're an alchemist yourself, than you'll probably hear those noises when you fail to mix the two or fourteen correct potions you needed to memorize.

Spoiler: Stat bonuses (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Base Skills (click to show/hide)

Archer (or Marks Person)- ZIIIP! PWWINNG! Don't be afraid of archers, be afraid of their missiles, for with a keen eye and vision, archers are the type to put you full of arrows. Of course if you are one, just make sure you don't run out of arrows, than again you can always improvise an arrow. Or heck, if arrows aren't your thing, than get gun!

Spoiler: Stat bonuses (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Base Skills (click to show/hide)

+7.00 to any ranged weapon if your choice or you could divide the number among any ranged weapons.

Barbarian-YYYAAAAAAHGGGGHHGG! Look out, here comes the barbarian, trained from a young age to smash things to itty bitty pieces of flesh or whatever their made of and taught to survive on nothing more than tree bark, the barbarian is a very tough foe to take down. Of course if you are one, expect to be pretty dumb, of course you're ability to grab a chair leg and ram through some things gut makes up for the lack of brains.

Spoiler: Stat bonuses (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Base Skills (click to show/hide)

+5.00 to either blunt weapons or hacking weapons (think claymore type, or axe)

Conscript-UP ON YOUR FEET SOLDIER! LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT! The conscript is little more than a person who knows a little about killing and a little on how to survive in the world of course when a Conscript puts all of their training together, than they are sure to take down their foe! If in you are a conscript, your training in weaponry is more general, therefore you are more likely to dive into a dungeon and the first weapon you find is likely to be with you till the end!

Spoiler: Stat bonuses (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Skills (click to show/hide)

+3.00 to three weapons of your choice and +1.50 the weapon type, if you pick weapons with the same type the 1.50 is added to the skill.

Doctor- HI EVERYBODY! A doctor is someone who knows his way around the body of every creature. Whether they're slimy, scaled or just squishy expect a doctor to be able to heal them, or dice them up into little tiny bits, ligament by ligament or bone by bone. Being a doctor entitles one to have large bonuses in fights from years of studying the anatomy of all creatures, unfortunately a doctor has little to no skill in almost no weapons but still being able to know how to properly dice up an opponent is good!

Spoiler: Stat bonuses (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Skills (click to show/hide)

+5.00 to small knives +4.00 to slicing and piercing weapons

Entertainer- LIGHTS! CAMERA! HOLY SHIT ROCK! O.K. not the most dangerous opponent out there, but entertainers sure know their way around people, and around sticks, tomatoes, empty alcohol bottles and more! Don't expect to be able to take down opponents if you're entertainer but do expect to know how to make money!

Spoiler: Stat bonuses (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Skills (click to show/hide)

Fighter- SWOSH! FWING! CRACK! A fighter is experienced in a good number of weapons and somewhat in other combat skills, which makes the fighter the better equipped for using weapons proficiently. If you do happen to be one, expect to begin with a good amount of weapon skills.

Spoiler: Stat bonuses (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Skills (click to show/hide)

+4.00 to two weapons of your choice

Healer- FORGET 911! I'M HERE INSTEAD! The healer, not the most dangerous foe, knows less about the anatomy plus bandaging a wound of all creatures than a doctor, and knows even less about combat skills. The healer does gain talents which increase their HP and a few that help their best skill, healing. If you are a healer stick to sidelines where you know you can help best, your companions.

Spoiler: Stat bonuses (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Skills (click to show/hide)

Mage- YOU PUT THE BANG IN THE HEALING SPELL! A mage is someone who could not decide on whether or not they wanted to be someone who blew stuff up or healed the sick and dying. So instead they choose both! Expect to be in the middle of the fray if you're a mage and also knowing a healing spell or two, may have you running back and forth between the areas of a fight.

Spoiler: Stat bonuses (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Skills (click to show/hide)

Noble- THESE PEASENTS KNOW NOTHING OF FIGHTING! I SHALL TEACH THEM BY THRUSTING MY SWORD THROUGH THEIR CHEST! A Noble does not know much about fighting but they are certainly well experienced in one weapon! Too bad that there is a chance that the weapon may be hard to find. Although if you are one, expect to know how to get a good deal which is a skill you learned by climbing the social ladder.

Spoiler: Stat bonuses (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Skills (click to show/hide)

+5.00 to swords and +2.50 to slicing weapons

Paladin- A CREATURE'S WORTH IS MEASURED BY IT'S LOYALTY FOR MY GOD! A Paladin is someone who is brought up the way a noble is, but the Paladin is certainly not highest standing of the social ladder. If you are a Paladin, expect to be in high standing with your aligned god and as well the weapon that is associated with them.

Spoiler: Stat bonuses (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Skills (click to show/hide)

+5.00 to the weapon associated with your god and +3.00 to the weapon type.

Rouge- YOU'LL ONLY HEAR ME TALK WHEN I'VE CUT OFF YOUR EAR AND I FEEL LIKE TALKING TO IT. Known only for their ability to sneak up on someone and pickpocket, steal a held item, a packed item, maybe a piece of clothing than slash their throat out, all in that order. Being a rouge does not necessarily entitle one to going one on one against an opponent and automatically killing it so don't expect to go around killing things.

Spoiler: Stat bonuses (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Skills (click to show/hide)

+4.00 to clubs (+2.00 bludgeon) or small knifes (+2.00 pierce)

Scientist- I'M THE GUY WITH KNOWING AND THE FIGURING AND THE FANCYLABCOAT! O.K., O.K. not the most dangerous foe, actually the scientist is as dangerous as bunny. Although being one entitles a player to vast amounts of knowledge which can be used to the player's advantage. Seriously, you will need to think in order to survive if you want to become a scientist.

Spoiler: Stat bonuses (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Skills (click to show/hide)

Tourist- "INSERT YOUR WITTY DIALOUGE HERE" The tourist is anyone the player would like to be, spend some skill points here, than some there and you have your player ready!

Spoiler: Stat bonuses (click to show/hide)

*And a thirty point skill potential to add to any list of skills you would like
*Five skill points for any weapon of your choice

Warrior- I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT COOKING BUT CUTTING, THERE'S SOMETHING I CAN DO! When it comes to warriors, think of them as less smarter than a fighter and just as strong as a barbarian but more able to slice their opponents to bits with their prefered weapon, rather than just club them to death. Expect to be in fray as a warrior, expertly dispatching your opponents with your prefered weapon.

Spoiler: Stat bonuses (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Skills (click to show/hide)

+6.00 to any weapon and +4.00 to the weapon type.

Wizard- HM? NOW WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO BLOW SOMETHING UP? The opposite of a healer, the wizard will most likely be the one to be blowing creatures up. If you do so happen to be a wizard, make sure that no creatures get close to you and if you have to, cast a spell to toss off into the distant in chunks or pieces.

DF Modding / At last, A more Civil Goblin Mod for DF (Release 0.0.95)
« on: June 18, 2009, 08:33:08 pm »
({DOWNLOAD HERE})

Er hm, let me begin by saying that I believe that Toady's goblins are not green skinned but in fact they are gray skinned.

Continuing, this mod as of now still has much more planned for later but unfortunately that later planned stuff is still being worked out. For now the mod is mostly done and playable, hopefully.

Changes this mod brings.

BIG ONES!
-Goblins are more civil and now the only playable race in fort mode.

-they wear different clothing that is much more expensive than your typical vanilla clothing.

-they mainly use firearms as a means of defending themselves, although be warned, you may want to keep seperate stockpiles for your ranged weapons, as all of these weapons use the crossbow skill!
-Rifles of the short and long bayonet type, they fire minie balls which do 500[BLUDGEON] standard iron damage
-short does slash damage while long does pierce, long is stronger but has a high chance to stick
-Handgun, nothing too special just a slightly stronger version of the crossbow
-CANNON, obtainable via smelter, fires cannon shot which causes 5000[GORE] damage, instant kill

-Goblins can make obsidian from nothing, although this sound like cheating, it is justified, as goblins can no longer dig into the mountains. So get used to building above ground settlements.
-Goblins can also make iron and steel items via blank stone reactions, these can be made from nothing as well.
-They can also be used as gems.

(That's not how they look in game)

A blank stone can be made into one of three stones.
2 Power stones can create three pieces of coal.
1 Power stone plus mineral can create iron extract. Which in turn can be smelted into iron bars.
One of each stone (minus the blank) can be used to make steel extract. Which as well can be smelted into steel bars.

Five pieces of Obsidian stone and a pure stone can also create a stack of five bones.

Slightly less bigger changes!

-Animal civilizations, very very very dangerous animal civilizations, they all breed in litters and have naturally high damage block, along with many other fun traits.
-Bear People, these guys are HUGE, and do not get stunned during fights. fortunately they use only copper items.
-Lemminites, think kobolds on ecstasy and PCP, they use only wooden weapons but breed in large liters.
-God Toad people, do not get in a fist fight with these guys, other than that, well beware they use iron items!
-Turtle people, slow but deadly and super high damage block, also they use iron items.
-Annnnd! Snake people, your only friends in this goblin hating world. They also use iron items.
-NEW PACK ANIMALS!
-Black cats, don't under estimate these little critters
-Bass Turtles, large lumbering creatures with ultra mega highz damage block but very slow.
-Stream line diggers, pretty much giant white earth worms with horns.
-And goblin slaves, for all your depraved goblin needs!

-Notes

*Black Cats do not breed as much as normal cats, they're breeding age is their last year. So you really don't have to worry much when it comes to black catsplosions.

*All sentient beings can be sold for a profit when cage properly, you can also tame their babies when they give birth to them.

*Goblins do not farm.

*Depending on where you settle, you may need to fill a well with water.

*ALWAYS BRING ONE STONE WITH YOU. ALWAYS BRING ONE STONE WITH YOU. ALWAYS BRING ONE STONE WITH YOU. ALWAYS BRING ONE STONE WITH YOU. ALWAYS BRING ONE STONE WITH YOU. ALWAYS BRING ONE STONE WITH YOU. ALWAYS BRING ONE STONE WITH YOU. ALWAYS BRING ONE STONE WITH YOU. ALWAYS BRING ONE STONE WITH YOU. ALWAYS BRING ONE STONE WITH YOU.

Note right now that I am surfing the web using the right side of my computers shell. I can not tell you right now how silly this looks, please help me Bay12, I hate looking stupid. ;_;

As of now I rebooted my computer three times, used all five different ports of my computer got rid of this Wii remote next to my computer that was somehow on, attempted to resynchronize the mouse via the two buttons on the bottom a countless number of times and am even considering how I would use the mouse like this for the rest of my life!

A little SS

Let me start off by saying that I didn't grow up on ASCII, instead I grew up to love it.  How this oh so wonderful addiction to depicting dragons, elves or dwarfs with a simple character developed was by my simple act of downloading a game called ADOM.

I started playing ADOM at, oh... the age of nine.  And while I continued to dive deeper into the dungeons of ADOM, doing so made my mind become fascinated with the idea of how a 'W' could represent a shadow wyrm; the fascination only deepened when I read the detailed descriptions given to me by examining the creatures of ADOM.

In short my fascination with ASCII is not necessarily the elitism [sarcasm]of knowing that my mind is more imaginative than most people[/sarcasm].  It is that most or all that is given to me in ASCII games develops as I progress along.

And even though it's just ASCII I've yet to see a machine represent images of anything better than a human's mind or perhaps any other creature for that matter.

If ASCII does give way to what most people term as real graphics, than I hope that there is at least some hope for middle ground to ASCII lovers.

I bought this type of USB, (it's a San Disk Gator Skin USB 4gigs), a couple of months back when the weather was still cold and when snow litered the roads.

It works perfectly, especially when I deleted that crappy software that came installed on it, unfortunatly for me I wanted a pink one; there were only red ones left. :( It was still a bargin as far as things go, around 15$ IIRC and not to mention the last one on the rack.

So Bay12, what do you use for a portable software storage device?
