Fine, but I think that if someone is going to make a wiki guide page or edit, the least they could do is post it here to see what everyone else thinks about it.
I'm not going to edit the wiki page, only because I have no idea on how to use that coding stuff; even if I did try I'm sure I would destroy it, and any helpfulnes it may have.
The first thing I learned on trading was that you must create products, from workshops first, you can trade any items you may have in your fort, from meat to weapons. So it is a good idea to get these workshops going once you get your first prioritys stright, early stock piles, hitting those pockets of stone, or finding any other materials that can be made into goods.
Make sure you build workshops corresponding to what your dwarfs already know, it may also not be such a bad idea to train them in other skills, also make sure you have the materials to do so, but make sure your dwarfs are also crafting what they already know how to!
Another thing to remember is that the skill values of your dwarfs affect the
quality of your items. Having no quality isn't such a bad thing you can still trade that item, and don't let it discourage you, as your dwarfs work they gain experience as well as being able to craft better products. Also while this is going on you may want to build you self a trade depot, make sure your first one is somewhere where you may either change latter on or you can fortify as you go along, since the wiki states any caravans attacked or destroyed even if it is not your fault will ruin you forts stand on that race.
There, I tried my best, and this is really all I know, so far.
