Curses / Organization Mod (help please)
« on: November 21, 2008, 01:58:12 am »
I know I am going to regret this, especially with schools, but...I stayed up 3 hours and modded in some Organizations, as inspired by E. Albright. The mod isn't tested, it might be complete and utter fail, and, since I do not know what "number" are referenced to which "creature" (and thus can't create my own "creatures"), I had to 'borrow' "creatures" from other Organizations, so there will be Agents working for Leninism and Agents working for the Government. Also, I do not know where the text for seiges are located.

Oh well. Let the train wreck a-rolling.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A3SG20GL

New Organizations:
---Leninist Crime Squad: These people desire to recreate the golden era of the USSR before Stalin peverted it. In some cases, they can be very useful allies, as they support Abortion Rights and Gay Rights (Both Abortion and Sodomy was legal, before Stalin banned it in the 1930's), Liberal Taxation Policies, Liberal Judges, freeing sweatshop workers, and stopping Pollution.

The Leninists however supports the Death Penatly, an powerful Police, suppression of free speech, nuclear power, and governmental spying. So one has to be careful.

The Organization is spilt into two, a Conservative division that wants to cause society to drift conservative on certain issues, and a Liberal divison that wants to cause society to drift liberal on certain issues. The LCS must assist the Liberal division while brutally crushing the Conservative division.

---The Apolitical_Crime_Squad: They don't interfere within Politics, preferring instead to profit no matter who's in power, but secretly, they do have one desire: More police regulations.

---Milita_Movement: Their goal is to fight for the appointment of Conservative judges, protecting gun control, and causing modifications to the tax code to eventually pave the way to zero taxation. These people fight against what they see as Government oppression, and sees the Liberal Crime Squad as a secret arm of the US Government.

---PETA: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. They renounce violence. They will campagin for granting animals the right to vote in the tried and trusted manner of peaceful protest and buying out TV stations.

---Greenpeace: They are more focused on stopping Pollution and Nuclear Power than they are about animals' rights, but they also renounce violence and instead use their money to buy out TV stations.

---Genetics_Corporation: Having recruited a small personal army, the Genetics Corporation's main goal is to create a world's army and dominate the globe. It is against Pollution regulation and supports Animal Testing, both as a way to help in perfecting their latest creations.

Organizations not added in:
---ACLU: Doesn't seem to add much to the game unless if it gets countered by some Anti-ACLU group
---Radical Moderate CS: The system does not allow for Moderatism. There can be a possiblity of having two Moderate CSes working against each other, in the hope that their actions will cancel out causing Perfect Moderation....but that sounds stupid.
---NRA: Seems to be already duplicated by the Milita Movement

By the way, did you know you could recruit sleepers directly, without hostage-taking?

Yes, I know that, but it takes up one of your recruiment slots, and I prefer to fill them with people who can directly aid the LCS. The only benieft to recruiting sleepers directly so that you can expand your sleeper network. I got a free Judge sleeper who will be set to doing that once he reaches Arch-Conservative.

Also, I seem to be doing fine on the Money Front, but that's because my LCS doesn't really spend money on much (buying weapons, ammo, disguses, etc. can really add up). I did establish a Liberal Guardian, and sent some journalists over there, so I could use some money to feed those journalists. What might be more useful though is stealing documents from the Conservatives, to reveal around November 2007...

I'll liberalize one of the Corporate Managers I see running around (while trying, for a very long time, to find some Radio Personality that I can kidnap). They should already be at "Trusted Conservative" level. I'll check to see if he can steal office supplies.

I said before, all (or most, I don't remember) of these values are randomly generated. Sorry.

The game uses whatever skill is higher. You got a high disguise, so the game uses that instead of Stealth.

EDIT: While I could see how an L+ Society might be...er...funny, it might let criminals goes free, making the LCS' job easier, making the game too easy.

Though I guess it could be countered by having all other criminals be more powerful too...

Most people when they see "Kobold" think of the one from D&D, not the one from German folklore.

Huh. My bad then. Any reason why D&D did such butchering of German folklore?

DF Suggestions / Please Rename Kobolds...
« on: November 20, 2008, 04:36:51 pm »
This is a big pet peeve of mine.

Kobolds are NOT regular semi-humaniod creatures who go out and live as savages.

This is a Kobold.

Quote from: Wikipedia
The kobold is a sprite of German folklore. Although usually invisible, a kobold can materialise in the form of an animal, fire, a human being, and a mundane object. The most common depictions of kobolds show them as humanlike figures the size of small children. Kobolds who live in human homes wear the clothing of peasants; those who live in mines are hunched and ugly; and kobolds who live on ships smoke pipes and wear sailor clothing.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kobolds
(Emphasis mine.)

Basically, kobolds are beings with magical powers, who have great potential to cause mischief throughout the land. Mess with them at your own peril.

Now, I don't want this kind of Kobold in DF, I don't see the need. I'm fine with the original Kobold already. But it's a pet peeve of mine that this 'neo-Kobold', who is not at all an Kobold, but rather a small primitive society who are not at all magical and who cannot turn invisible or polymorph into whatever they want to be...

So, just rename those species to something else. It's that simple. Otherwise, people like me would go in, worried about the possiblity of magical Kobolds going in and blowing up my entire fortress with magical powers, and then get rather underwhelamed when they get presented with these non-magical primitives.

So in a L+ society, likely no tasers...meaning...er...what?

How can a L+ police officer can effectivley counter anybody, if they can't even use a taser to stop a person from running? You aren't going to tell me that the Police Officers will just have to run and scream slogans to try and convince people to surrender (unless those slogans can convert people to Conservatism)? Any good ideas...unless we really want to go follow the "Fat Police Officer" line?

Curses / Police Elections
« on: November 20, 2008, 03:32:08 pm »
In a L+ society, police are elected by the people, and can be recalled at any time. I know that's just for flavor text, and in reality, police are just as Conservative as they always have been, but it did make me wonder...

If there are going to be measurements of how the Police behave, with an C+ society resorting to firearms to kill any lawbreakers, I wonder how police elections would be handled within the game itself. Could police elections be rigged be either Conservatives or Liberals? Could the Police ignore traffic tickets and other minor crimes so as to make them more popular with votes? Or better yet, would a Police Officer make secret deals with criminal organizations (in return for overlooking their crimes, the gangs will ensure the Police will get re-elected)? Does Police Sleepers have to worry about scandals caused by the CCS causing them to lose their position? Would police raids occur right near "Police Electoral Day" so as to boost the popularity of incumbments? What happens if the LCS and CCS control rival Police Stations?

And if Police are elected, why not Judges too (which actually does occur within parts of the US)?

Trashing Happy Fun Land is fun!

But I don't actually see it as some sort of satire. Just a form of low humor.

Okay, I know no support for this release, but there is a bug in which my Sleeper, a Radio Personality, that I just converted, has an action of "Tending to injuries" and gaining First Aid skills.
