Spring works and can be reasonably flashy.

This is something you rarely read in the description of a game:
Quote from: The Void description
You literally need to draw your way with your own blood

Oh well, there goes another 5 bucks. Plus another 2.5 on red orchestra. Still undecided on Red Faction Guerilla.

So that's another sale to Steam.  They're nickel and dimeing me to death here, but I can't pass up these deals!  Anybody else having that problem?

Yeah... I don't have time to play half the games I've bought on steam.

I've read posts by americans on oil industry forums to the effect of "man, now the gulf of Mexico will be overregulated like the North Sea :\"

Because lack of regulation is apparently working out nicely. Not that the North Sea is accident-free, there was a near-blowout on Gullfaks almost simultaneously with Deepwater Horizon. But safety procedures and requirements are at least extensive, well-defined and standardized. And I think the offshore workers have better living and working conditions than in the gulf.

Safety has improved drastically in the past 20 years.  that doesn't mean it isn't abominable still though.

It's no longer common for beer to be the on-duty drink of choice,  but I've known several guys doing dangerous fucking shit that were regularly drunk while doing so.

Reminds me of the story when they made the first find on the North Sea Ekofisk field in the 60's, after years of unsuccessful searching. A couple of off-duty drillers were sitting by the shaker when they noticed an odd smell which they ignored. After a while they went over to the shaker to look at the mud, and realized it had streaks of yellow oil in it, and gas bubbling out.

Then they both stomped out their cigarettes.

Yeah, but getting enraged about the latest game/movie/album from a group you like, the details of which haven't even been released yet, is the equivalent of a marathon in comparison.

Reminds me of this 2000 post flamewar/rant over the pixel count in some scenes in Alan Wake.

I'm afraid the KV-VI didn't actually exist (sad, as the backstory is awesome). It's an urban legend wandering around the web.

The russians did have some real crazy-projects though. Like the Antonov A-40 "tank":

Upgrade Complete is rated 3rd, and isn't even a game.

Kongregate was good once. It was a neat place to find new and creative flash games, but the last year or so it's been mostly variation over hopelessly worn out themes.

There are many very bad aspects about patenting that hinders development too, or are downright unethical. Especially in computer software and biology.

Big software and hardware corporations have "patent wars" every now and then where they sue a competitor over infringement over some overly broad/abstract patents, and the competitor sues back since they have similar patents. Take the mexican standoff currently between Apple, HTC and Nokia for instance.

In biology there's the whole patents on genomes thing going on.

The patent system as it currently exists is terribly broken really.

I'm going to drop The Dig down and see if anyone has ever heard of it.

It puts the entire Myst series to shame.

You can pick it up at steam for less than a fiver. Not sure if I'd go as far as calling it obscure, but it is much less well-known than the other lucasarts adventures. I haven't even played it, and I've played pretty much everyting else LA has released.

I'm surprised it survived. HP pavillions have the sturdiness of something made of wet newspapers and eggshell. The motherboard of my DV6whatever died three times in two years, and it pretty much always sat on its desk.

I suggest buying a new charger and stop dropping your laptop.

Man, I should probably start following the development of this story more closely, it's sort of work relevant. Seems like the general public is starting to know more about this stuff than I do.

If what Halliburton says is true, then that is pretty damning for them as well. If they thought BP's well plan was unsafe but went along with it anyway, then they have their share of the responsibility.

EDIT: Glancing at the feed, Hayward has the look of a hunted man knowing he's soon to be an unemployed, hunted man.

Actually, the earth does sort of deflate because of oil production. I use survey heightmaps for oilfields in my day job, and around the older oilfields, particularly Ekofisk, there is a very noticeable oval depression many kilometers across on the sea floor.
