Heh, man, bugs these days aren't worth mentioning.
Back in the old days, you'd get one unhappy dwarf, and he'd hit another dwarf, and then suddenly it was every dwarf for himself, with dwarves killing each other left and right, and the sherriff wading through them, severing their limbs.

You'd end up with one dwarf left, if you were lucky, and everything would be great... until the immigrants came and it all started again!

The Dirty Dozen Challenge
Glacial Map, with no contact barring goblins.
Set the Dwarf cap to 12 in the ini file
Take as much of anything as you like.

Goal: A bloody end.

Note: I recently did this one myself. You'd be surprised at just how quickly endless waves of ratmen can overcome a small group of dwarves. Then again, maybe you wouldn't be.

My favourite story is from way back.
It was adventure mode, and me and my band of meatshields had been tasked with defeating a giant. Given we'd been fighting all sorts of monsters, I foolishly felt no fear!

As we explored the lair, I was the first to come across him.
At that stage I still did not appreciate the danger, because I attacked him.
At first, it appeared to be an even match. I wasn't really doing any damage, but he wasn't hitting me, and I was dodging about.

Then the inevitable happened, he hit me, hard, flinging me across the room, breaking my arm, I dropped my weapon where I had previously stood.
Standing up again, I attempted to get my weapon, while my companions slowly worked their way towards me.

I utterly failed to retrieve that weapon, as the giant then smashed me in the face, knocking me unconscious.

I woke up shortly later to find several of my companions dead and the last ones being dealt with a few tiles away. The giant, on the other hand, was barely injured.

I found my own legs had been broken, and I obviously could not move to retrieve my own weapon. I started moving away, hoping to escape, despite my injuries, knowing in my heart I would be unable to save my comrades.

Unfortunately, my attempt to escape was cut short by the giant's efficiency, as he pounded the last of my allies into oblivion, he then turned back to me, obviously surprised I was still alive.

He marched towards me, and I searched my belongings and found, to my glee, an exceptional scimitar.

I knew that I would be unable to fight him, I had only the sword, and not even my shield remained at hand, as it appeared that arm was thoroughly broken.

As he loomed over me, I threw that scimitar with what was left of my might. It whirled towards him and... sliced off an entire arm!

He instantly blacked out from pain, and I pulled myself over to him, gouging his eyes, and strangling him until he died.

Grabbing my belongings and escaping that dark lair, my deed done, I saved the grief for my comrades for safer locales.

This adventurer turned into one serious hardcase. I think he later killed a dragon in a single spear throw.

Dude, even MY sig is too long, but it has the virtue of providing some level of amusement.

LOL. Oh man... just... man. Sooo funny.

I can see how one can make the jump from the introduction of a z axis to the assumption that it will be full 3d, but man, you have to ignore everything else you know to do so.

I remember having done this in 2D and it was awesome then.
I look forward to this, and possibly joining in at some point.

All good to know. Also, no, I don't think steam has any meaningful impact on fire.

See, that's my point. Toady already knows that it has to be a seperate sort of damage, but at the moment, it's fire damage, so I think it will cause fire to erupt. This will have interesting consequences.

Speaking of fire effects, I would like extreme heat, aka lava, to totally destroy things that fall into it, aka dwarves. Especially as others sometimes try to fish them out.

I'd just like to point out a few possible issues before they possibly get overlooked.

On particularly cold maps, is it possible for the slow moving human caravans to freeze to death on their way to or from the fortress?

Do seiges freeze to death too quickly?

Does steam, which apparently does fire damage, set things on fire?

Why not looked for a named creature?

I am not sure. I cannot test from here. You might try adding new rows below it and referencing to those.
