Holy Jesus oh mighty you'd be surprised how many kids the military churns out. In one of my fortress, one of my champions wrestlers had 10 kids with her champion marksdwarf wrestlers. I think the spawn of military population contributed probably 30 dwarves to my fortress. It was pretty insane.

Yes, Yes I do. Any military that didn't execute their men for that kind of dereliction of duty would be held as a joke.

Though I will be training up a new military first so their execution will be placed on hold whilst I figure out some suitable punishment.

In dwarf fortress, your dwarves attempt to milk burning cows. Trust me, no one cares about the fact that it's a joke. You'll find yourself facepalming when the Bronze Colossus shows up, and your champions are resting in their tombs.

So, I locked in an elf merchant, and his buddy with their animals inside my trade depot.

Eventually, the elves and the donkey goes melancholy. The Camel fucking blows his lid and precedes to murder EVERYONE in the trade depot. So, I let him stay inside...

Human caravan shows up, okay. I let him out and dogpile him with three recruits. He kills the recruits (Who bruised his hump.), and charges at the caravan, who only put him down after he takes out one human (Who puts got his pike stuck in the hump of the bastard) and takes 5 seconds of bolts.

So, how do I prevent this same thing from happening again?

I don't know if it qualifies for cleverness, because I haven't really tried it yet...

But I have a theory for increasing the frequency of goblin sieges.  Duplicate the goblin entity entries and call them EVIL1, EVIL2, EVIL3, etc.  On embark you will see "Dwarves, Elves, Humans, Goblins, Goblins, Goblins, Goblins" in the neighbours screen, since the game appears to pick the nearest civ of each entity type to interact with you. 

The hope is that duplicate goblin tribes = more ambushes and sieges.  But I haven't properly tested it yet.

Unfortunately, the problem is that you'll have regular civilizations go down. I've genned a few maps lately where there is an influx of goblins, but no dwarf civies.

No, that's to maintain a proper buoyancy in the water so the fish doesn't float to the surface or sink to the bottom.

Though in evolutionary history, swim bladders have been used as a primitive set of lungs, but this first occurred when fish came onto land.

I let my first two military dwarves go at it with swords, without armor.

On the first match, One swordsdwarf cuts the other swordsdwarf in half and sends his lower body flying across the room (Onto a bed,ironically). The dwarf that was cloven asunder was buried honorably.

He's my champion swordsdwarf now, with 50 notable kills.

This sounds like a great story. Looking forward to more updates.

Could you post the seed for this world? I've never had a world at war with any civs.

Final Room would be a very large cistern.

The plan would be to make a narrow passage with a flood gate. When you get a merperson or a number of mepersons in the passage you could close the gate and open the hatch allowing for the room to empty and drown the merpersons. Or you could build vertical bars in the side open to the sea, you could breed them inside the area, and when one wonders into the other side, you could close,drown, and get the bones.

I'm so going to hell.
