DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / My first ambush
« on: August 27, 2008, 06:24:38 pm »
Yes, kids, it's been leading up to it. So, I was chilling after having constructed my walls, and was building the appropiate doors for it, when suddenly, there was bang, and poof! Human caravan.

Not too bad, I thought. The humans brought the usual junk, a few iron objects which I traded my bins full of worthless shell crafts for. Yadada.

Goblins show up. They show up way off the map though, so it's all good.

So, they come rushing around the corner of my walls to get to my entrance way, when they encounter my apparently well placed trade depot swelling with human guards. The humans lose two, and the golbins are completely destroyed. Good stuff. Even better yet, they all dropped a crapload of iron objects, so I get the best out of it. Then a snatcher shows up, gets capped by my marksdwarf and drops even more golbin goods.

Yay Humans!

Wow. I just figured out that my other two wrestlers and my marksdwarf are female. Goddamn it. Screw it, let their offspring die.

Tantrum spiral?  Obviously your dining room is insufficiently legendary.  I had a dwarf lose his wife, two children, and a friend to the goblin menace and he was still feeling fine.  I should check his personality though; he could've just been a very sociopathic fellow.

Man, my wife and children just died, but my dining room is AWESOME!

Wow, that's not a bad weapon. You get uberpoints for figuring out a way to make water more deadly.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Why I stopped using Female dwarves to fight
« on: August 26, 2008, 06:38:21 pm »
So, one fine day in the Salves of Virginity (I'm not kidding), the wailing cry of an infant was heard. Twice. And lo, the effective military of the Salves of Virginity was crippled. So, in one day, I go from three wrestlers dwarfs, and two possible marksdwarves recruits, to two wrestling dwarves and marksdwarf. Oh damn. You see, the problem with my military having children is that if their baby dies, they head for the nearest cliff and toss themselves off.

The second reason, was because Husbands don't take losing their women well. Married dwarfs don't make good dead dwarves, and it's a real pain in the ass to calm the tantrumming dwarf, especially when your military is has lost a few dudes.

My dwarves don't make useless artifacts only artifacts that I have no use for at the moment. Millstones, for example, when I have three rooms filled with plump helmets.

Or maybe those admantite armor for your dwarves to fight in. Best to relocate quickly those graves, it's going to be a hard fight. Make sure you have a way to dump magma or water on the enemies.

I had a good one.

"The Barricade of Finding"
The group name was "The Dagger of Testing", which I found to actually be pretty cool.

Actually, if the water isn't too deep he could wade across. If it's more than 4/7, he's finished.

DF Gameplay Questions / A few questions
« on: August 25, 2008, 12:03:15 am »
Hi, I have a rather mundane question on fey dwarves. Do they become fey (Or the other moods) when the conditions exist? Or is it random?

Secondly, how do I locate my expedition leader? I just had a possessed dwarf create a rather awesome coffin and I want to give him that grave, but I can't seem to find him.

Heh. I also have a very active fishing industry, and an active butchery (Freshwater marshes), so I pump out shell crafts and bone crafts with ease. I just gave the dwarves a crapload of useless stone crafts for much needed bags, and thread.

So, recently, whilst exploratory mining, I found myself with huge stockpiles filled up with limestone. So, I set my craftsdwarf on his merry way filling up stockpiles and stockpiles with stone crafts. So, two question. One, is this really a good trading option, and two, what do you do with giant mounds of stone?

Hi, I'm having issues understanding the melting and making of items. I have built the wood furnance, the smelter and the workshop, and I have limestone, but I have no idea how to make steel or pig iron.

Yeah, or a shower system. That way all those immigrants could get properly deloused on arrival as well. Oh, and if you think your dwarves are crusty with grime and dried blood you should check out the cats./quote

Yeah. My little kittens are basically moving bloodstains, while my cats are painted different colors of red.

It looked like that Oklahoma train crash.

Actually, how about a Georgian train wreck after hitting a landmine?

Anyhow, that sucks dude. Maybe you might want to include a water switch in your food stockpile when you reclaim?

Cage traps them, or flood the world. Elves can't swim, as I found out.
