DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Your most epic moment of win!
« on: November 07, 2009, 09:53:55 pm »
Recently spectacularly failed at attempting to take down an Elven Forest retreat, but I had an awesome moment. So, the first elven child (This is year 4) I attack, I run through immediately. This is the story with the several more who attack me, usually being a quick leg stab, they fall over, followed by a finishing blow-stab. Finally, a bow guard runs up. He shot two arrows at me,which I blocked, and one which cut my knee(Doing nothing). I dodged behind a tree, and played hide and seek with him for a bit, until he got within range, at which point, I started stabbing (Spear human). First stab breaks his hand, so he drops the masterwork bow and starts trying to punch me out. I stabbed around a bit, until I finally ran him through his torso, piercing his right lung and his heart. At this point, I'm thinking that the bow guard is finished, but no. He keeps fighting me, until I ran him through a second time, stabbing him through his heart and right lung again, and getting his liver and his other lung. He finally gave into pain and collapsed, and I stabbed him some more before leaving him to die of his mortal wound.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: November 07, 2009, 02:04:51 am »
My fortress is tumbling merrily along, with the first Elven caravan showing up, and promptly being shut away. Also, 19 immigrants show up, raising my 15 population to 33. I blame it on leather crafting. Anyhow, when one of the elves finally loses it, I think I'll rush them with the immigrants.

I've started on a new fort, and this one is pulling together quickly. Indeed, I find bringing 10 cats to start with was a very good idea, as my year-end slaughter of cats is brining me enough skulls and leather to offer great trade benefit, plus wonderful food biscuits to keep the populace very happy. I have been having a slight crisis with my kitchen overzealously converting wine to prepared meals, resulting in a slight shortage of drinks for the dwarves, but this will be taken care of. All I'm waiting for now is the migrant wave to help build up the rest of the fort and really begin to beef it up.

because I know (and it is constantly proven, in my life and others) that people are in fact influenced by what other people have to say
These threads say otherwise.

Where's your lack of a god now?!

Ehem, atheist myself.

Yeah, I fought a wrestler who had killed several peasants from a nearby human town (Consquently, the person that was supposed to die was another giant in the same cave. I ended up killing seven notables, in the same cave.) He falconed punched my bowman, literally punching and causing him to explode into several mangled pieces. He managed to lock my leg before I got a lucky upper body hit which got both of his lungs, his throat, and his heart.

F1: Uhh...How does this work?
F2: A huge freakin' mess. Flooded eventually.
F3: PARTY HALL!!!! And 4 champion wrestlers. Introduced to the tantrum spiral because everybody was everybody's friend.
F4: Introduced to the joys of pumps and magma, eventually reducing the interior of my fortress to an obsidian hell.

"Let me get this straight...You engraved images of yourself eating cheese, all over my bedroom."

Whoopsie. I hope no undead carp find their way into the flooded part of the fortress.

Armour, in most cases, wasn't really intended to prevent injury.  Although, armour could stop a glancing blow or seriously negate some weapon strikes it was mostly to give the wearer a better chance of preventing death.   Shields and foot work were used to prevent injury more than anything as I understand it.

That's still the case today. A modern combat helmet today is made to stop grenade shrapnel. Any normal .22 rifle round will penetrate it all the way through. Ceramic armor isn't even made to fully stop bullets, simply to make sure that the bullet, if it penetrates, will only either leave a nasty bruise or embed in the muscle and not penetrate through.

I suppose you could feed the fortress with all the air-drowned whales.

Megabeasts remind of "Hotel California"

"In the masters chambers, they gather for the feast. They stab with their steely +elf bone bolts+ but they just can't kill the beast!"

Yeah. Because jumping into water is THAT STUNNING!

Considering water freezes at night even in moderate climates, I image that jumping into that water is actually that stunning.

Once, the dwarves of mine let a champion die from being disemboweled.

What did I do? I took 12 dwarves, and placed them in a room full of wooden spikes. I pulled the lever a few times. The one dwarf that survived stumbled to a cage trap where he collapsed, so that a cage fell on him.

That's not evil you might say, but I'm forgetting something important.

I traded him to the elves.

Probably my most valuable guy in the fortress. The following year, the mayor, that had been re-elected for over 10 years, was finally thrown out. Probably because of that little accident.

Actually, I think Mayor-Mechanics work differently, because I've had my military decimated time and again, and my mayor continues to get reelected.

General Discussion / Re: LAN Party World Record

That's actually kind of weird that you should post this. A person I knew in the game EVE Online (If any of you play that) died while hosting a LAN party last week. Apparently, he stepped on an exposed cord, and the electricity stopped his artificial heart.
