This is the best idea ever. If there is a slot left I want in.

Yeah, it looks like the forum's going down the gurgler.  And the main culprit?

This thread.  ::)

Huh, thanks for the constructive feedback.  ;D
So this thread is bad [why shouldn't we talk about these things again?], but trolling and spamming is ok.  ::)

You keep talking about trolling, and I understand why you don't want to name names but honestly without examples it's hard to gauge whether there is legitimate trolling going on that is being overlooked, or whether you're assuming conflict in certain areas is trolling. Not all heated arguments arise from someone intentionally stirring the pot. "Troll" does not mean "Someone who honestly disagrees with me and is a jerk about it". "Troll" implies malicious intent to create conflict, and I just don't see that here. I've seen the fuse of disagreement lit by arrogance and explode into one mess of a fight, but I wouldn't call any of that trolling.

Here's one of the dwarves from my current fort Greedgates. 'Dopey' The Blockaded Musics died recently when goblins  made it through the walls and up into her guard tower. For 8 years she defended the fortress single-handedly and also chopped all the wood. She is survived by her husband 'Happy' and four of her five children 'Happy Jr.', 'Dopey Jr.', 'Delirious', and 'Love-Struck'. The baby whose name I forget survived the goblin attack but dehydrated because no one was around to feed it.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Can't train dogs

Yeah that's what I did and it didn't work. I wonder what my problem was.

While Zon Wheelbucket was protecting the fortress from the goblin menace, Urist was inside updating stockpile records. And yet Urist has called into question Zon Wheelbucket's militarty credentials. There's only one conclusion to draw from this: Urist hates veterans.

Paid for by the friends of Zon Wheelbucket.

DF Gameplay Questions / Can't train dogs
« on: September 28, 2008, 07:10:42 pm »
I bought a dog from a caravan to replace my fallen war dog. After giving the order a number of times in the kennel to train war dog and having it cancelled because no suitable animal can be found (despite the presence of this new dog, in a cage, in an animal stockpile right near the kennel).

Eventually I figured that maybe the dog needed to be available as a pet to be trained, whereupon he was immediately snatched up as a pet by my dog-loving expedition leader, and was thusly unwardoggable.

So I now have a second dog I bought from another caravan, and would like to not have to wait for a third to get my war dog. What am I doing wrong here? Could someone tell me, step by step, how you train a war dog?

Since he's not a real dwarf, I decided his clothes are decorated with finely crafted rope reed cloth.

You can get elf seiges just by cutting down enough trees? I thought they just stopped trading with you. I'm going to have to try this, I've been looking for a way to piss them off.

Yeah I was pretty sure he was doomed when I was reading that too. Charlemagne seems to live a charmed existence.

57
There would have been one left, but sadly he betrayed us to our enemies and met with an unfortunate "accident".

I'll add you to the list.

58
Man, what's the deal with the lack of immigrants? I suspect carp involvement.

I can't believe this is running so smoothly. I figured I'd be chasing people down all the time. Thanks for making this easy on me everyone.

This wasn't on purpose, but when I first started playing I made a very nice, completely engraved room that was also a statue garden. However, I had mistakenly made each statue in the room (there were lots) into a seperate statue garden, because I thought this was necessary for them to be included. The result was dwarves were throwing three, four parties at a time, and the entire fort grinded to a halt as everyone just partied instead of farming or brewing. Eventually the fort starved, having literally partied themselves to death.

Your fort is really really big so I don't see this working as well (the population of the fort that partied to death was in the high 20s) but theoretically if you made an expodentially larger super statue garden, you might be able to reproduce the Eternal Party of the Damned.

Edit: I was also using the party room for coin storage, and by the end the few remaining tantruming dwarves were running around the room throwing coins at each other.
