DF General Discussion / Re: What Constitutes 'Fair Play'?

Traps : I use a fair number of cage traps (I love messing with prisoners) and a few weapon traps. Since I play with the immigration set to 7 (which slows it to a trickle rather than cutting it off completely like you might think) if I didn't use traps my fortresses would rapidly become goblin forts.

Player Traps : Descriptions of these are the entire reason why I started playing DF. If melting goblins with Lava is cheating, then I don't want to play properly.

Atom Smashers : Just this minute learned they exist.

Quantum Stockpiles : Never done it, not even sure how I might go about doing it. When I was first playing I would have been tempted, but I'm good at using up stone now so I wouldn't bother.

Crossbows : My army tends to consist entirely of crossbow dwarves and maybe one or two melee dwarves (who are more arena fighters than actual militiamen.

Modded Races : I mod some things to make them more powerful, especially megabeasts. Also for a while I had modded elves to be evil but that got overwritten when I switched versions.

Modded World : I mess with the raws all the time, but not with the intent of making the game easier. More with the intent of making it more chaotic and insane.

Surely 80 is not a hard trigger, since I've heard people getting sieges playing with a pop cap of 7...?

Are you sure they were seiges and not ambushes? Seiges are much larger attacks consisting of many squads of goblins.

The "purple stuff" is bruise tissue on the mangled fingers and toes. I was presented with quite a list.

This is the third or fourth time I've heard reference to "atom smashers" here. Can someone briefly explain the what the term refers to in DF?

First they see if the mayor candidate drinks vast amounts of alchohol.

Then they vote for him.

How is THAT supposed to narrow it down?

"Urist claims to have a healthy appreciation for alcohol but on the 23rd of Felsite she was seen going to the river for a drink. How can we trust somebody who is regularly sober?

My name is Zon Wheelbucket, and I approve this message."

I don't usually laugh out loud at stuff, but that was hilarious.

You could have merchants refuse to buy goods their species can't use (I always wondered what humans were doing with all those narrow socks) or probably less game-breakingly just value them less. There could also be a sharp decrease in value for things that are bloody and encrusted with vomit.

I don't know what this forum's opinion of cartoonish nudity is so I played it safe.

I'm surprised there weren't more requests. Usually people are all over this stuff. Maybe they figured out that the drawings were going to look like fat, psychotic playmobil people.

I still drew your dorf, but please use the form in the future. It's much harder to reference a big block of text when trying to draw something. It was an insane pain in the butt drawing Urist. In fact, now that I think of it: Any post posted after this post that doesn't use the form or that uses spoiler tags will be ignored. Sorry, but I'm doing this out of the goodness in my heart and that gives me very little to work with.

Also this is for dorfs only, and especially not intentionally complex attempts to trip me up.

BAAAH my website went down between when I uploaded the first image and when I drew this one. I've had to get a photobucket account it'll take a few minutes to sort out and get everything displaying properly again.

DF Suggestions / Re: Engraving History Selection

I'd be happy if each engraving made a future one of that type less likely.  Sure you'd still get a lot of copies of the big stuff, but it'd be more varied.

This. This right here. I'd rather have this than the entire Army Arc.

I am so in favor of this. I don't care if they subtracted wealth from your fortress, it would be awesome and you know it would see a lot of use.

Will dead civs show up when you export world history? Because I'm starting to suspect this is the case. Is there a simple way of finding out if a civ is dead or not without having to go into legends (I want to be able to evaluate worlds I gen before accepting them)
