DF Gameplay Questions / Help a Beginning Engineer
« on: May 11, 2009, 09:47:25 am »
I'm posting this for my boyfriend who is desperate to get his machine up & running, but had to leave for work before he could sign up on the forums and ask for himself.  If I don't explain the problem properly he should be along in a few hours to clarify. :)

So, background - a misplaced well flooded the old fort (huzzah!) The reclaim team is attempting to drain the water, but the Great Machine isn't working properly.

He's trying to use the dual waterwheel design from the wiki, but the wheels (once constructed) aren't transfering power to the axles.  What's wrong?

DF Modding / Where are my seeds? Where are my plants??
« on: May 10, 2009, 09:42:17 am »
I've modded in a bunch of new plants for my game (mostly picked & chosen from various mods by other people. I hope the creators aren't offended, but it's only intended for personal use.)  And after a while, I've noticed that 80-90% of my plants seem to be unavailable.  I can get most of the underground plants just fine, but almost all of the surface plants seem to be gone.  Humans don't have any cloth or seeds for trading, and the only plants they have are bloated tubers, muck roots, plums, and peaches.  The elves have yet to bring any sunberries (after 5-6 years in my current fort) but have an abundance of bananas and coconuts.  (And while their coconuts are lovely, I want my sunshine damnit.)

I'm using a few other mods (Avari, Hobgoblins, and a few monsteres plucked from Legendary Lands, the unblock/uncut reactions and economic stone mod).  I don't know if those could be causing some sort of peculiarness... I'm very much a newbie modder and there's quite a bit I don't fully understand.

Here's my plant files, if it helps (warning, they're long).  I hope someone can figure this out... I was planning this fort to be mainly surface farming but lack of surface seeds has put a crimp in those plans.

Edit:  I've also noticed that the downside to not having all-year growth seasons for surface plants is that your map gets clogged with dead bushes that never go away.

DF Modding / Impoverished Word Selector?
« on: April 09, 2009, 01:05:56 am »
"Impoverished Word Selector" keeps showing up in my errorlog. Does anyone know what it means? It seems to be causing DF to hang up when creating a new world.

I'm using 40d with the Legendary Lands mod.  Any help would be appricated.

Thanks. :)

DF Modding / Question regarding plant biomes
« on: February 22, 2009, 03:03:16 pm »
Can I designate a plant to grow in a biome that doesn't normally support plantlife? (such as mountains or badlands)

Thanks!

DF Gameplay Questions / Zee settings, zhey do nothing!
« on: September 07, 2008, 09:57:13 pm »
I tend to be a "take it slow" sort of player, I quickly get overwhelmed by huge waves of immigrants.  So, I set my pop cap to 30 with the plan of raising it later when I feel ready for more dwarves.

I get a couple of immigration waves and I notice that I'm over 30 population. I check the forums and see that pop cap is more of a 'general' cap than a firm one. So, maybe had had 29 dwarves followed by another wave of migrants, fine. I shouldn't be getting any more now unless I change the cap.

Next season, another wave... and then another.... >_<  Current dwarf pop- 49.  How do I get them to stop?

(My setting is [POPULATION_CAP:30] in the init. Maybe I typo'd the syntax or something?)
