Oh wow I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. The music/sounds and the comments in the chat box really make it.

"OH GOD IT HUNGERS"

Ok. Beat it. General useful tips:

 * Magic is horribly unbalanced. Your very first starter mage hero with the default troops is all you need to get through the entire game...

Hmm... I may just be doing something wrong, but the only map I used the mages (trainee's/archmagi) for had almost all of the enemies weak to the element I used and I still lost. Again though, I'm probably just doing something wrong.

I really should have just linked it in the first place, probably :-\

Steam, by Valve, the alternative to Impulse.

Speaking of which, you can take your AI War key that you bought in Impulse and register it with Steam too.
Yes, thank you. I know what steam is. I don't know what he meant by 'make an announcement' or 'ask around on steam'. Ask whom? Where?

For anyone that might not know there's a Dwarf Fortress Community on Steam. Just click on Community when you start up steam and do a search for the DFC. It should pop right up and you can join there then make announcements/post comments/etc. There's quite a lot of Team Fortress 2 going on there, but there's also a bunch of other games. It seems like people can pretty much just mention something and at least a few other people will play.

Edit: Also, downloading the demo. Looks like a lot of fun from what I've read.

Play With Your Buddies / Re: Dominions 3--New PBEM Game (Running)
« on: June 19, 2010, 12:38:54 pm »
Based on the previous B12 Dominions game, that would cause Caelum to ultimately win.  I'd love to see the chicken-men win!
Haha I was debating taking over Ryleh even though I have no idea what I'm doing anymore. It might be kind of funny to see what happens to Tien Chi if Caelum's set to AI. If EuchreJack wanted to play Ryleh then definitely go for it. I kind of stopped actually thinking about this game a while ago  :-\

Hmm... Dosbox doesn't work (I tried it earlier on my win7 64-bit laptop I keep at work) but I'll have to try that virtual PC out sometime when I'm at that computer.

Tech/cyborg stuff

Wow... geez apparently I didn't play that game nearly enough, because I definitely don't remember any of that. Oh well, there goes my evening tonight.

Edit: Ooohhhhh... I was thinking of Sim LIFE, not EARTH. I don't think I've played Sim Earth somehow. Time to check it out!

So, assuming I found the same game you did (the Caesary on kongregate that popped up on google) it's... Evony. In flash form. It's been a while since I've played Evony though, so this may just be based on it or whatever. It kind of gave itself away when the tutorial lady kept saying "My Lord". But yeah, if you like that kind of "idle game" as they call it (start something, walk away for half an hour, come back to do the next thing) it seems pretty polished.

I go with GraphicsGale for pixel stuff. I don't usually use a new tool if I have one that'll work, but it just does the job really well. The website's in Japanese (until you find the English link, which isn't hard) but here's a download link: Link. I found it through some pixel art tutorials so if you want to figure out everything it can do there should be a tutorial or wiki available.

Haha, well the 5th level wasn't bad and I'm working on the last one now. I guess we'll see how I do... I might have to figure out how to slow it down if that makes it easier. Probably not, but maybe.

Edit: Huh. I don't know if I figured something out part way through, but levels 5 and 6 as well as the intermediate and advanced random levels I played weren't as hard as 3 and 4. Fun game! Thanks for pointing it out.

Holy crap this got hard fast... I think I'm on the second to last level now and I feel like I only won 3 and 4 by pure luck and getting second winds at the right time.

Yeah it reminds me of the Lufia dungeon too. The "artifacts" aren't special weapons, by the way. They're just random stuff that happens to show up in a yellow chest which means you can keep it. Some of them can be quite good, but I'll agree the arty weapons I've found have been fairly lacking so far.

I think he's decided to stop making games. I feel like I read that somewhere anyway. He has some sort of "write programs for fun, not profit" facility going I think...

That Evolution game looks really neat, but I can't get it working on Win7 (keep getting MEM BAD POINTER errors, even in Win95/256 colors compatibility mode and after using the reg file). AntRush looks pretty cool too and I'm setting it up right now. Hopefully it runs!

Edit: Seems to be running ok and the game itself looks pretty neat.

Yup, half the 'fun' of fixing error messages is figuring out what they REALLY mean.
