Plus, I want the ability to draft dwarfs from the "v" menu back. It's always nice to be able to insta-draft your carpenter that gets attacked by a gorilla while chopping down trees rather than have him run across the countryside in no particular direction, just as long as it isn't back to safety.

Regarding getting a coating of poison on your weapons... Is it possible to generate some kind of domestic 'poison elemental' that, when killed, violently explodes, coating a wide area with its contaminant? If so, then some room can be set up where a spike trap is used to kill this poison elemental that got dropped into it from a hole in the ceiling. Drop target weapons into this room too, then pull the lever.

Pure theory, but I do wonder if it can be done. The "violently explodes" part may not be necessary if you make the room very tiny... but I'm not sure whether contaminants get coated onto items that happen to be nearby a corpse taht died in a bloody fashion. Yeah, pure speculation theory.

The way it's described on the wiki the [UNDIRECTED_VAPOR] should cause an animal to spew poison in all directions that condenses into a coating. more over it seemes they will do so without any need to be near a hostile.

Isn't that what number of cavern layers does. Or does that change the actual number of caverns you encounter as you dig down?

I have seen my axedwarves 1 shot gophers by just chopping them in half. I would speculate that could be done to many creatures once axe skill is up enough.

My militia of woodcutters were good enough to chop skeletal cougars in half with one swing after a couple of altercations with the local skeletal groundhogs.

IIRC there's a thread which has a whole load of island sites that people have genned so that is not in fact such an issue.
Would it not be possible to have the other animals as pets with the learn tags or would they not actually be able to carry out jobs?

I need some help in terms of modding in order to try and recreate Noah's Island in Dwarf Mode. For those that haven't seen the show here is the wiki link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noah%27s_Island (TLDR: A magma powered island run by speaking animals).

So firstly I'll need a volcanic island map, then I'll somehow need to get a selection of skilled animals of various species on the island - the bit ill need help with most.

So far my thinking is thus:
1. Mod dwarves into Polar Bears and so that i can have Noah the Polar Bear in my embarking 7 then kill off the other six so I am left soley with him on a magma powered island.
2. Mod various animals with [can_learn] and [can_speak] and then somehow trade for them or perhaps embark with them so that I have the Polar Bear as mayor and the other animals doing various other jobs.
3. Sit back and enjoy.

Seeing as I've never done any modding before I will likely need plenty 'o help from you modding pros out there.

Firstly, I LOVE the plants! (although imo the colour of the pigtail should be less saturated)
I've thought about the issue with farm tiles containing more than one plant (some up to 12) and I decided that the tiles should be a representation not a direct depiction. I think the same should go for all sprites going into this Project.
Another issue is I would get pressed for space and things will look cluttered.

With regards to that: Like you have done with many of the plants already, you could have 1 plant that visibly contains more than one piece of fruit - like the Muck Root, Rope Reed and the Strawberries. Thus if you were to have the sunberries have more than one flower head or several berries packed into the centre of one flower it would help to depict being able to harvest more than one product from each tile. That said, I think the plants look great as is and to be honest don't need much improvement at all.

One thing that interests me is how iconic some peoples' avatars are to me now, more than their names, attaching your displayed personalities to weird, frequently-animated little images.  It throws me for a loop completely when someone changes their avatar (*ahem* Footkerchief, you've done it several times).  But yeah, lots of avatars stick in my memory: the big purple '&' symbol, the face of the guy from full throttle, the headbanging freespace pilot (can no longer remember what his was before that), the trolls in the boat listening to a boombox, the person with the anime girl character avatar who always begins and ends posts with proper salutations, the big toothy maw of Warlord, Mayday's green alien, the big dwarf statue... the list goes on and on.

I joined in August 2008 with .38c. I Remember being so impressed by how fast it got updated to .39 then .40 in about 1-2 months (I guess toady was on a role or something - *sigh* (not really!))
