Hahaha i love the string of dead corpses moria style--one of my plans for the new versions is to play a fort through a siege loss just to see how the militia idea works out in a siege defense.

What i dont like is no bones! but the design is amazing--i'm going to try this with water so i can shunt the swimming gobbos into a drowning chamber that can be drained to collect their sweet sweet bones. This could also be a perfect swimming design if you have grates on the walls so your dwarves get pressed against the grates being forced to swim. Once the new version is finished i have so much things to do to my dwarves!

Going with the beard/body hair idea since it makes sense to have them near the mouth getting all the food in the beard--you shoot a dwarf in the chest and thats where the baby is hanging on hence why babys are arrow shields.

I enjoy building complex mazes to hold sieges when they take to long to go away--build a stairwell that gos like 5 Z levels below a water source then a big maze with a draw bridge at the end. Open the bridge and let them run down the stair wells and into the maze then close the door and open the floodgate drowning the entire siege.

The best thing is the spiders are a great source of silk because unlike GCS's theres always a fresh source of them so a staked puppy maze and 6 trapped wolfspiders can provide you with enough silk to last for years!

Yeah i've been playing with orc mod for nearly a year now and the first thing i learned was you need to get a drawbridge done before the first season ends. You can also build a catapult very far back so the operator doesnt get spooked and lob your excess stone at the orcs waiting at the drawbridge to save ammo.

So, I also was handed a female dwarf who, upon reeducation, became a glassmaker of all things. I had started from a save a few weeks back from the spot I wrote the previous post at. Anyway, I finally got the two (Daseb and the dwarf) reeducated and the dwarf was happily hauling things through the fortress when I started getting interruption messages (Urist McHauler cancels store item in stockpile: Interrupted by Glassmaker) followed shortly by 'Urist McGlassmaker has been struck down'. Apparently a passing dwarf had beat the newly reeducated dwarf to death.

Daseb was still in the drowning pit (I'd dumped her there for safekeeping while I reeducated her), so I assigned her to the red velvet rope I had set up in the dining hall, thinking since she displayed as 'Tame' they might not bother her. Urist McButcher, Murderer (custom profession name, hehe) successfully hauled her all the way up to the dining hall and chained her up.

But it was not to be. A couple minutes later I get 'Urist McFatass cancels Eat: Interrupted by Pole Dancer' followed by 'Daseb Nourishedclasped, Pole Dancer has been struck down'. Yet again, a random dwarf beat her to death.

...

Of course I'm reloading from my last save (immediately prior to reeducation) to fix it, but I'm not sure if I can; I had all the tags set identical to my own dwarves, and the civilization hex was the same. The only thing I can think of is to try the 'tame & steal' function in Dwarf Companion... I'm guessing the other dwarves saw these two as enemies because they were still members of the other civ somehow. They both still read as members of the goblin civ in their descriptions.

...

Also, it should be noted that while I was fiddling with her soldier settings trying to deactivate her from the military so she could work (unsuccessfully), she for some reason shed all her clothing and armor, retaining only her bracelets, amulets, earrings and the bloodstains on her feet. I thought this should be noted because it is hot.
Put her on a raised platform with gold/plat/silver chains--why do you think strippers are always on raised platforms? those business men have a habit of striking them down.

Its much easier to just have a huge swathe of cage traps then an execution room filled with deadly creatures, i had a wonderful pit filled with skeletal jaguars that i would pit entire sieges into one after another watching the blood cover the walls and spray out the pit hole. I eventually captured a magmaman from my magma pit and threw him in but he just kept running around and never fighting.

Also instead of the elaborate traps you could have a series of 3 doors on either end of the murder room set to non pet passable and have the trainer constantly run through the gauntlet until all the dogs got caught inside the room and have the ceiling be a bridge connected to pressure plates but very narrow so theres minmum room for gobbys to shoot the dogs.

Although I'm a very new DF player. I personally prefer aesthetic design to efficient design.

This is my first fortress. I'm experimenting a lot with diagonal pathways and circular rooms.

I've started a new fortress now. Will upload when it's a bit more presentable! :P

DEAR GOD MAN! thats like everything i've ever brainstormed but never had the patience to do.

I'd totally have your babys if you gave me a designator with these designs because circles are way to much goddamn effort lets not even speak of fractals.

How would a nuke even work? haha i could see a giant firestorm that destroys buildings that would roll over your entire map--maybe have it trigger cave ins? TOADY I WANT TNT TO MINE WITH!

Think about it, its the perfect counter to walls! have it destroy and collapse walls so it could help you mine out large areas and for sieges you could have petards with barrels of black powder to smash your fortifications.

Hahaha we should all build our homes like bunkers, you never know when aliens or civil war will validate your actions! aliens you say? shit do you really wanna take that chance or do you want to be one of the running screaming humans who get slaughtered by them? I mean whats the chance of your fortress getting attacked by a dragon? very small! but if you dont build that moat with draw bridge then hes going to bust down your doors and set everyone on fire.

Be prepared, stay alive.
