This is because there is a "creativity" personality trait and also a creativity attribute. Same could be with a high self-discipline ("possesses great willpower") and at the same time low willpower attribute. The whole mental attributes thing just lends itself to such oddities.

Now I have an urge to name the ages of DF history. Like:
1) Age of the Toad
2) Age of Development
3) Age of Survival
4) Age of Three Dimensions
5) Age of Megaprojects
6) Second Age of Survival (the current one)
7) ...
8) Age of PROFIT!

Feel free to make corrections, that was just a rough sketch of an idea :)

Isn't one word enough in the manager screen? Just select what you need from the list shortened by your input. Well, sure, uniformness of interface is a way to go, but I'll stick to using space for now.

It seems there already are both variants: militia and regular, full-time army, the latter's just unavaliable until you have a baron. Look here:

Not that I'm against the idea of revamping them so militia is simpler and leaving the complex regulations for when you have full-time military.

Doesn't the direction box in the upper left corner help finding the exit? Just look for the closest cave and get to levels just below ground, you'll find the way out eventually. At least I was able to do that with no problems.

EDIT: On the other hand, I wasn't going too deep, just exploring the first layer, however very extensively.

It's a known bug. Toady found it himself, as he wrote in the dev log some time ago. He just didn't get to fixing it yet.

Yeah, getting quests will mark some caves on your map, these can be used to gain access to the underworld. The cave entrances are a bit more tricky to find now though.

My militiadwarves act weird. Both squads are set to train, but one of them only does individual combat drills (and very efficiently, they are accomplished axedwarves already), and in the other one nobody has risen past novice and all they do is show each other how to dodge or strike (while all being novice or dabbling at it).

Also I hate how they switch to civilian and back all the time. Makes it impossible to tell which dwarves are assigned to squads and which aren't. I understand that they are supposed to be militia (i.e. workers with combat training and part-time service), but I'd rather have regular, full-time military. And that is only allowed after I get a baron :/

EDIT: Gosh, the game's moddable, how could I forget... One can make full-time military avaliable right from the start. Or make militias to be like regulars, whatever. Maybe I'll even try that if the situation does not improve in stable release.

Correct me if I'm wrong - the temperature resistances of tissues are a bit buggy right now, warm water will record as scorching and hurt you if you stay in it for too long; on the other hand, submerging yourself into magma will not kill you outright, but rather lead to very slow and painful death.

You may try to get both your hands busy, i.e. grab some random appendages, then switch your tactics to strike and maybe the adventurer will use kick or bite.

Also, I recall having totally no idea how to translate "Boatmurdered". And every other name of "noun-verb-ed" structure.
