DF Gameplay Questions / Re: marksdwarf won't pick up arrows?
« on: October 29, 2008, 04:25:29 pm »
He will usually reload.

You might however want to lock him up in the room for the duration of the battlle to a) make sure he reload and b) to prevent him from going on a smoko-break during the battle.

And thanks, nice to meet you too :D

Dwarves will usually carry training bolts (wood or bone) in hand and live ammunition (Iron or Steel) in a quvier. Does he have a quvier ? If so you can look inside to chek if there are bolts.

DF Suggestions / Re: Channel designations visible on level below

Good idea.
Could also go for Stairs, ramps (on the level above).

While we are a it...
It would be nice if diffing designations other than just dig (ramp, stairs, ...) would show what kind of stone is below once discovered...

I was strip-mining a huge are using the Ramp method, i keep getting messages about "You struck native Gold" or something... While in normal mining it shows under the designations, with other (Ramps) the only way to know where is to undesignate the area...

Drinking (and eating) at parties would be really nice.

Because at it is not "Partying" is hard work - it make Dwarves Thirsty. They go to a drink, then they Party agian, then Sleep...
Getting some real work done somewhe in between would be really great...

The idea is fine, i just think putting a barrel in the dining hall und use mugs from there would be close enought.

Why would dwarves bother with kegs ? These are tiny  ;D

It has been tested that you can't dig a chanel on the lowest level of the map.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Tamed Beast Attack Merchants ?
« on: October 22, 2008, 02:52:09 pm »
Let it out again. It was still tame...
Still chained it before the next merchants came...
The guards walked straight to it and killed it  >:(

Went to catch a alligator for trying, tamed it - same results...

So either my Dungeon Master need re-education, or Taming is brocken somehow... (The Beast are friendly to my Dwarves but stay hostile to Caravans...)

DF Gameplay Questions / Tamed Beast Attack Merchants ?
« on: October 22, 2008, 01:44:10 pm »
I caught a Giant Caveswallow, Tamed it, let it out again...
It was roaming my fort, and seemed quite friendly...

But for some reason, it went nut's when the Elf Merchants were leaving (not when they came  ???), and attacked they Muskox...
The Bird then got caught again in a Cage trap, suggestion the game treated it as hostile to my fort... But it's still listed as "tame"

Any idea what went wrong ?

It had never killed a Dwarf.
It didn't attack Dwarves... Just the Merchants Packanimal...

Hmmm... Mixing Drinks. That's a Great Idea independent form the Pond issue  ;D

You could just average the Quality i guess...
Or make it a new Job, so the Mix Drink can get a new Quality from skill...

You could also stretch drinks with water, increasing the amount of booze you get, but risking your legendary Axedwarf notice it and get really-really upset at the bar-keeper  :o

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Furnishing a High Quality Room

Actually, the Stocks Listing can be very specific, and a good way to locate stuff - even prepared meals. This is why i had mentioned a good bookkeeper.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The whole point here however is:
You don't look for "Prepared Food", you look for Turtles. (These will be listed under "Fish")
You won't get any Shells from eating prepared (cooked) food. (Nor from Cooking it).
You must eat a prepared (like in Processed at Fischery) but not cooked Turtle, to get a shell.

@ Silver Statues - I think it's metalcrafting if you forge it.
You can also use un-smelted metal - these Native Gold or Silver Nugets - it will be masonry then.
(I think using Nugets makes more sense - you will need 3 Gold Bars for one Metal Statue, But you can make 3 if you use the unsmelted Nuggets...)
